Thinking about getting rid of my dieselgate VW and picking up something a little more fun.

not looking to spend a fortune ($50-60k maybe a little more for the right car), and am thinking along the lines of;

2012 335i

2011 S4

2013/4 IS350 F sport

has anyone been down this track before and made a decision one way or the other?

Dang, some seriously nice cars there.

I think I'd be leaning toward the S4. Its by far the more 'performance' of the bunch and, being 4 door, more practical than the BMW at least.

What model Dieselgate is it?

I would probably go the F30 4 door if i ended up with the 335 anyway, trying to convince myself they are also practical. I am leaning towards the S4 as well though.

I have the Passat alltrack, looking at your cars there i would say we are in the same boat?

I'm not sure whether to cut my losses and trade it in or to hang on and see what happens with the class action - i bought early last year RRP $58k and i am looking at about $27k trade in at the moment..

God damn thats painful!! I hurt for you. :(

dont go the audi. enough people around having issues or dealership woes or just maintenance in general.

Gotta agree here actually, Audi is just a VW in a diff skin anyway.

Test drove the Audi today - not as quick as i expected, still i think i will buy it tomorrow unless anyone really does know of any issues?

looks like they are easy to get some more power out of with a flash anyway:

i have owned both Audis and BMWs forget about the 335i , get the E92 V8 M3 which has a bullet proof trans and engine .

Yeah there are a few floating around work, amazing cars - i just don't have the balls to turn up with a V8 given that they pay for my fuel and i drive a fair bit...

Only interested in a sedan? Why not look at new golf R? would get it for 55-60, stage 1 tune and 283kw, 523nm 3.8 0-100 times. Then only uses 8L 100km too.

prefer sedan, i was looking at the new golf r wagon though - nice car but also not what I'm really after

The missus had an IS250 before, great car very reliable, a little under powered but if you get the IS350 should be fine. Never had a Audi so can't comment. Would stay away from BMW unless you really want it. We sold the IS250 and bought a BMW and the quality and reliability of BMW is not even close to the Lexus. The only upside with the BMW is the stock twin turbo v8 making over 400kw.

    • Oh, there's also the gearbox crossmember which will probably be different between the small box and the big box, and the wiring loom will probably need to be modified, because the plugs for the switches etc, will probably be different. And I think the speedo on the small box R34s is from somwhere stupid, like the diff, possibly, so you'd need to work out what needs to be done about that (assuming it is different). I think the thing you need to realise is that the front end of that yoke is a large hollow tube with splines on the inside that mates with the splines on the box's output shaft. It is a dedicated thing - not available "aftermarket". They were made to suit that box, by the car's OEM.
    • You need to buy a Saab Matt, ours had a button that turned all the dash lights off. Any decent aftermarket dash has sufficient brightness control and a headlight input for day/night settings. None of which probably helps OP
    • Yeah thanks...i thought it would be alot more i dont know 😄 I saw some videos on converting push/pull and it seems you need to "drill" the hole for slave(master) cylinder and buy some converter kit. On that front yoke clip i did not even know that is a thing and i need to source that(custom shops do not do that?) But anyway thank you for the info
    • Not the headlight. It's the DRL that serves double duty as white and amber. Would be the easiest way to make it happen, if fitting a BCM was in any way an easy thing. Otherwise you'd do it with some relay logic and/or maybe some diodes.
    • Would require a very smart body control module which these cars are about 20 years to old to have
