I'm thinking about changing the callipers on my R32 GTR to bigger ones from a Porsche. Appart from the Engineers Certification etc, are there any hidden problems with brake upgrades. Such as bias or messing up the ABS.

Anyone had any experience with this ?

I dont think you will have too many probs with bias, while nowhere near as hardcore a brake upgrade as yours, i did notice that when driven hard the front brakes got to operating temperature quicker/slower (most likely quicker?) then the rears which meant for the first few hard application it would tend to lock up rears, once everythig was warm it was fine.

So perhaps more a matching of brake pad compounds. What Porsche calipers are you looking to upgrade to? GT3 6 pots? :aroused:

Personally i would get rid of the ABS and do traning in braking

LOL...no way, im scared to brake at 100% in my non ABS car. If im on soft R compund rubber im petrified that ill flat spot them (ie *** $500 tyres :D ).

But i know what your saying, i didnt find the Nissan ABS that intrusive so i dont know, i wouldnt NOT buy a car becase it had ABS or vice versa :D

yeah porsche gt3 calipers on the gtr/brembo discs. And from memory they are a tight fit unde 17' wheels. And..while I am carrying on....4 spot brembos about $1500, 6 spot GT3 calipers only $2500, to me they are a *much* better deal

gt3 calipers for only 2500$? for 2 right? 2nd hand or brand new? porsche has always had the best brakes(i heard brembo make ALL their cars brakes). anyone know where brembo catalogue their range to the public, not their 2nd hand stuff off GTRs etc but like new rotors, calipers, pads etc.

no, you will need 17s for the gt3 calipers.  they are a great upgrade tho, fit straight on the mounting points and over the v spec (brembo) disks

So on an R32 GTR with std GTR rotors (what are they 296mm or something) you will need to run bigger then std GTR rims?

Most aftermarket calipers i have seen saddle the rotor tighter/closer then the std calipers which is why i thought what you would be able to use the 6 pot caliper with std rotors and std 16" rims?

This is of course all assuming that you arent running the V-Spec Brembo rotors which i understand are up around the 324mm, which not too many R32 GTRs are!?!?!?!?!?!

Yeah the GT3 calipers fit on the vspec Brembo discs which require 17s. I don't know how/if they can fit on the non vspec discs.

And the gt3 calipers are a super tight fit within the standard r33 17" rims too. But they do just clear it
