GTRman1992
I'm thinking about changing the callipers on my R32 GTR to bigger ones from a Porsche. Appart from the Engineers Certification etc, are there any hidden problems with brake upgrades. Such as bias or messing up the ABS. Anyone had any experience with this ? slip
if you are just talking about going to big reds on the front, you may have to sort the bias out afterwards. Personally i would get rid of the ABS and do traning in braking (if you havent already) - personal preference. Are you going porche front and rear? Appart from the Engineers Certification etc, are there any hidden problems with brake upgrades. Such as bias or messing up the ABS.Anyone had any experience with this ? I dont think you will have too many probs with bias, while nowhere near as hardcore a brake upgrade as yours, i did notice that when driven hard the front brakes got to operating temperature quicker/slower (most likely quicker?) then the rears which meant for the first few hard application it would tend to lock up rears, once everythig was warm it was fine. So perhaps more a matching of brake pad compounds. What Porsche calipers are you looking to upgrade to? GT3 6 pots? :aroused: Personally i would get rid of the ABS and do traning in braking LOL...no way, im scared to brake at 100% in my non ABS car. If im on soft R compund rubber im petrified that ill flat spot them (ie *** $500 tyres ). But i know what your saying, i didnt find the Nissan ABS that intrusive so i dont know, i wouldnt NOT buy a car becase it had ABS or vice versa Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/46137-brake-upgrade/#findComment-938798 Share on other sites
slip
very good point with the track tyre thing - very much a personal choice thing. what rotors are you planning to run gtrman? mist
give the guys at SSS Automotive a ring - one of the bosses has a GT-R with huge porsche brakes on them. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/46137-brake-upgrade/#findComment-938903 Share on other sites
Duncan
we put the porsche 6 pot calipers on the targa gtr (straight bolt on) and ran it with no bias problems Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/46137-brake-upgrade/#findComment-940306 Share on other sites
GTRman1992
Do you know what size wheels they were running and which car the callipers were from. Straight bolt up sounds very tempting ! Duncan
yeah porsche gt3 calipers on the gtr/brembo discs. And from memory they are a tight fit unde 17' wheels. And..while I am carrying on....4 spot brembos about $1500, 6 spot GT3 calipers only $2500, to me they are a *much* better deal Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/46137-brake-upgrade/#findComment-946634 Share on other sites
Airzone
I might be able to get you staffie rates for some of these Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/46137-brake-upgrade/#findComment-950509 Share on other sites
mokompri
excuse my ignorance, but what on earth are they Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/46137-brake-upgrade/#findComment-951137 Share on other sites
Airzone
14 pot calipers and there are 4 brake rotors in there somewhere. Don't find many cars with them though - they're a factory option for Airbus A320's (like a B737). If everyone's on the mood for brake conversions these should stop you fairly well though Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/46137-brake-upgrade/#findComment-952969 Share on other sites
redline2003
gt3 calipers for only 2500$? for 2 right? 2nd hand or brand new? porsche has always had the best brakes(i heard brembo make ALL their cars brakes). anyone know where brembo catalogue their range to the public, not their 2nd hand stuff off GTRs etc but like new rotors, calipers, pads etc. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/46137-brake-upgrade/#findComment-953670 Share on other sites
Duncan
very second hand, ex targa lol. I'm not sure who can help you with a brembo cattledog in Melbourne but I know Powerplay in Sydney resell the entire range. Ronin 09
I have a quick related question - I have access to a set of GT3 front callipers, I assume they will not go on a 32GTR with factory 16s? I want to be able to run comp Rs for the track on the stock rims Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/46137-brake-upgrade/#findComment-958406 Share on other sites
Roy
Depending on the caliper it may actually give you more clearance between your rim, depends on rotor diameter, in which case if you are using std diam rotors, a better upgrade will be 2pce rotors with std calipers. Can i ask how much you can get the caliprs for? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/46137-brake-upgrade/#findComment-959636 Share on other sites
Duncan
no, you will need 17s for the gt3 calipers. they are a great upgrade tho, fit straight on the mounting points and over the v spec (brembo) disks Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/46137-brake-upgrade/#findComment-959699 Share on other sites
Roy
no, you will need 17s for the gt3 calipers. they are a great upgrade tho, fit straight on the mounting points and over the v spec (brembo) disks So on an R32 GTR with std GTR rotors (what are they 296mm or something) you will need to run bigger then std GTR rims? Most aftermarket calipers i have seen saddle the rotor tighter/closer then the std calipers which is why i thought what you would be able to use the 6 pot caliper with std rotors and std 16" rims? This is of course all assuming that you arent running the V-Spec Brembo rotors which i understand are up around the 324mm, which not too many R32 GTRs are!?!?!?!?!?! Yeah the GT3 calipers fit on the vspec Brembo discs which require 17s. I don't know how/if they can fit on the non vspec discs. And the gt3 calipers are a super tight fit within the standard r33 17" rims too. But they do just clear it Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/46137-brake-upgrade/#findComment-959991 Share on other sites
FurryBarry
Hi all. I'm also looking to upgrade the R32 GTR M-spec brakes on my Z. I can get my hands on R34 brembo rotors and calipers but I don't know if they'll go onto the R32 uprights without a fight. Anyone got some ideas? EVL R33
A question regarding upgrades guys. I have been looking at maybe upgrading my brembos to a set of 6 piston Wilwood brakes and 4 pots in the rear. Does anyone know if they will be a lot better than the standard brembos?? Cheers Brett Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/46137-brake-upgrade/#findComment-960440 Share on other sites
