Hi Everyone

I'm aware there are aftermarket options but I have a question regarding the material and modification of the factory RB26 fuel rail.

From what I have gathered from various resources, if I cut and weld a stainless fitting on the end I will burn the zinc coating off and expose the steel. Now we know E85 is a bitch when it comes to corrosion. Once the zinc coating is burned off I'm guessing it would start to rust internally.

I want to weld -6 JIC male fittings onto either end. This will allow me to mount a Turbosmart 1200 reg in the factory position, feed it from the back, and remove lots of line and just keep it stock and tidy.

Can a few people clarify this for me please?

Also, can Zinc coating be reapplied?

Just found these guys in the same state. Might be the go if I decide to do it this way.

Question is, super Zinc or Nickel? haha.

You guys must think I'm mad....

I did the same thing to my steel VQ rails, tig welding 6an stainless fittings to the end. Been there over 6 years now running e85 daily.

I think e85 has had a very hard time breaking into the market with all these myths to overcome...

It destroys your bank account and relationships, potentially a divorce too.

Zinc and nickel coatings can be reapplied. Most chroming places can do it for you. Internally its a bit tricky but can be done, externally it is easy.

Strange, why??? Nickel coating is not as good an idea cos it can flake and splinter off [like chrome]. But bright zinc doesn't do this [just check out a thousand thousand thousand bolt heads]. I used to use a guy in Punchbowl Sydney for my bright zinc......I haven't done any for a while though, I'll see if I can't dig the contact details out.

And BTW, they strip the original zinc coating off in an acid bath first then they re apply it in the electroplate bath.

I get all my bolts and brackets done for my restored and modded Triumphs done here, so old stuff that was second hand and needed some care etc.
