Tried searching but couldnt find what iwas lookin for

i'm planning to Wolf3d my skyline sometime next year ..

But im concerned in regards to my auto transmission taking the extra output it MAY bring ..along with the other mods i have planned .. initially i'm aimming at 200rwkws.. possibly more .. as ive heard of some standard autos still going with over 200kw going thru them.

My question is will the auto be able to sustain that sort of power thru it for any length of time?.. providing i dont drive the living christ out of it all day ..

would an oil cooler help it last longer?

and what are my options beyond a standard auto?

im not the man on r31 autos, but i have an r33 auto(in a r33 gtst), and i blew my box( by that i mean i wore out the top gear clutches) because i was puttin more power through it only 160rwkw at the time, car had only did 80,000km

so when i got a new gearbox put in by MV autos he put in a stage 2 shift clutch basically replaced all the clutches with stronger ones, he said that the gearbox was now rated good enough for 230-240 rwkw

however other guys with autos haven't done a thing to there autos and they are fine, my car came with an trans cooler, but if your aim that high of an output i would suggest that as one of the first things to have

How much was it for just the new clutch packs and shift kit?

i paid all up just under $900

the box cost me $350 from jaustech imports

MVB auto did the rest of the work i think it was $525 for taking out the old box putting in the new one with clutch added into it,

if ya ask me was way better han my first quote which was 3 grand for a rebuilt box and the same thing would have happened to me in like 6months, so i reckonmmend always check more then two places when ya have an import, get someone who knows what they talking about

Do you want to keep it auto?

If so, there are things that can be done to strengthen the gearbox, but it could end up costing you thousands of dollars, and you'll probably still only get a limited life out of it.

If you need an auto gearbox for a condition of P plates, hold off your mods for a while and throw a manual box in when you're off P's.

If you have a power figure in mind, then it's obvious that you want to drive the car fast/hard... the RB20 box won't hold up for very long.

As for the trans cooler, you'd need to spend big money on a decent one, and even then, it may not hold off ultimate gearbox death for very long.

Yeh cool, ive found that out recently, autobox modification are cheap compared to manual clutches/gearbox

Once youve driven a good performance auto its hard to go back, im yet to be even close to beaten by a similar powered manual car to mine.

Automatic in R33 Gtst's, as much as people wont admit it, dominates manual at full throttle.

Thats being said, i still want a manual :wassup: not because im not happy with my auto, but because i like being in control of every aspect of the car your driving, and you cant drift properly with auto :headspin:

thats true in straight line power drags haven't had a manual with similar power beat me, but i still would rather the manual for control aspects and better drifts,

i can drift the auto, but its very difficult its hard to explain to people why, but put it this way manual ya can snap it around and also hold the kinda power ya need in a drift where as the auto just keeps puttin more power down and keeps going through the gears

put it this way once i get to the kinda power i want which is around 220-230rwkw i probably stop playin around and sell the car, hopefully go for a r34 mans afterwards

Its both

I think the clutches (packs) take most of the beating side, the shift kit makes the auto change better, it kinda grabs the gear harder instead of flowing into the gear like a standard box

So basically makes the car faster, more responsive and autobox is stronger
