Gents!

Have done my reading into achieving a little more boost in line with the modifications I have already + plan for and was reccomended a boost controller (EBC at that) and to keep it at around 10psi which is what I'm aiming for.

R34 GTT on stock turbo (how I'd like to keep it) and exhaust but this will be my next updated - upgraded coils with Splitfires and added Apexi Power Intake with shield & planning a CAI this weekend.

Are there any other mods I should be looking at prior to getting into this and everyone's preferred EBC? Suggested an AVCR but I see these go for 600+ and then I see different brands go from 200+ all the way to the simple bleed valves which I've been deterred against and trying to find a R32 actuator is pretty tough.

just my opinion

i wouldn't bother spending that much money on an EBC just to run it at 10psi

mines a 33

had JJR front dump, HKS super dragger cat back and a venom cat

and a JJR return flow and pod filter and the car was already at roughly 9psi with stock ecu

that was roughly 177rwkw

i then got that tuned with a PFC

and it was 201rwkw

edit:

possibly doing it again i might consider a boost t, but only cause theyre 100 bucks... but doubt it would make too much difference

Interesting.. you're probably right. My boost gauge (aftermarket) glimpses on 9 sometimes. Not sure how accurate that is but I guess after the exhaust and CAI I might just be able to get there.

Also have a FMIC to go in also.

Wasn't sure if there was a right or wrong here at first, definitely difference of opinion obviously. Just figured spend the money, the other mods I have planned should still have the EBC doing its job/paying for itself

On that, I'll need NIStune to tune stock ecu on my GTT right?

2nd hand Profec B for a couple hundred max. Pretty much ANY EBC is as good as any other unless you're trying to control silly high boost levels and need a bunch of other bells and whistles. So no need to go more grandiose than that (Profec or similar).

At the minimum you run 10psi without any tuning. It will be a bit rich and a bit retarded up top. It will be faster than stock, but could be better.

Add Nistune. Now you can have another pound or two and can tune out the R&R silliness up top, as well as fix up the fuelling and timing in the boost transition region to make it work better with the delayed gate opening from the EBC. This is about as good as you can go on a stock turbo. Worth doing, although the money spent on tuning the ECU for that "stage" would be better spent on tuning it for a bigger turbo. But then you also need to spend the $$ on injectors, AFM and pump stuff too.

to run 10psi or even 12psi or so.. I wouldn't bother buying an EBC

Yes an EBC will bring on boost on a bee's dick earlier.. but being a stock turbo it's going to come on early anyhow.

I would. I built a really good pneumatic boost controller that used a relief valve to give me control over the gate opening point. That gave me what I want, but it was like any other simple boost controller - its performance was variable. Different ambient and engine bay temperatures caused different results.

Replaced it with Profec bought for ~$150 and an afternoon's installation time. Result is predictable and repeatable boost control, even if I am only running 12 psi. Boost response from controlling the gate opening is noticeably better - the car is either much faster or much easier to break traction with (depending on usage!) than the softer more blurred boost onset that you get without.

And if I ever do get around to putting on a hypergear running at 20 psi.....the boost controller will already be there to adjust it up from the 14 or 17psi actuator or whatever will be in there.

We all have to eventually. They all die!

You guys tho.

l can see myself starting on stage 2 mods by the end of the year -_-

Whilst I've got your attention.. do you think a car is not worth modding once it's past certain k's. I'm sitting just over 160,000k now and starting to have a think long term.

stage 3?

My car has over 360000km on it (thanks to Edward Lee's Imports). It sees 1.6bar of boost into it everytime it gets driven, not to mention it's a track car. Gets the tits thrashed out of it and has been through half a dozen dyno sessions.

Motor is stock, cams are stock, head gasket is stock, motor has never been opened.

There are not many Skylines that haven't done big miles. As things wear out that gives you an excuse to replace them with newer, better parts.

Stage 3 sorry, my bad.

Amen to that! Wasn't sure if most skyline owners bothered anymore with them once they get to a certain mileage and I love my car to death so I kinda never want to see her go haha.

I got sidetracked and the others replied before my immediately relevant input could be posted, but....

Yes. Granted, I started at 23000km when it first came into the country, but it's now at ~195000. Copped a Neo transplant 20000km ago. Have a vague plan to seriously upgrade power but need to stumble upon someone's drug crop to fund it in order to avoid severe wife disapproval problems, and my own reluctance to dump thousands into mods that will ultimately shorten the life of the car.

Every other mod I've done has been aimed at lengthening the life of the car, including the massive birthday 20000km ago, which is how I justify dropping thousands on an engine transplant (and all the other things I did at the same time). I plan to keep modding it (even if very slowly and incrementally) for as long as I own it and I don't plan on getting rid of it.

I avoid the wife disapproval problem by telling her I got all this stuff for an absolute steal. It worked for a while. She now hates anything Nissan but at least I managed some upgrades[emoji1]

Not all heroes wear capes :P

So y'all reckon between 200-250 is a good time to start looking at a transplant? How common are low k's DETNEO's though...
