Hi all,

Has anyone ever used an 'Unregistered Vehicle Permit' to drive their track cars to track days etc?

I havent looked into it much as i dont have an unregistered race car that's driven to and from events.

Nearly all the cars at the last rally i was at were on UVPs, this ranged from caged cars to standard excels. These were people who lived in the ACT and the race was in NSW. So it is possible Drew.

The race UVP would be considered under the 'unreasonable and unpractical to have full rego'

In nsw your car has to be roadworthy dpending if it needs blue or pink slip and you get a conditional permit.. no more than 21 days

in the act you don't need any inspections after your initial first inspection and a car can be unregistered for upto 12 months before you pay for rego online.

Same as nsw.. your safty checks last a year but unregistered permits you still need a safty check before they issue a permit..

They are pretty strict about it aswell here in nsw.. i sold a new caravan to s couple from townsvile on there way to WA and they only issued a 4 day permit as they said thats plenty enough tie to head to the boarder register the ban and keep traveling back down south lol

I should have worded it better. The act don't need annual inspections. It's just the one when you first register your car in your name in the act. Every year after that you pay online and it's done. No more inspections.

Yeah I have heard of people having troubles in nsw. Back in the day we used to just type out something that said that we are driving X car from point A to point B on Y date. Worked fine when pulled over :)

Yes. Your not supposed to though, its supposed to be only for getting the car inspected. Also because there arent any tracks in canberra you would also need another permit in nsw. Its easier to borrow a car trailer, and about the same price. Also you can still get defected on a permit

FWIW, NSW has recently restarted the dedicated rally car rego scheme after about 10 years. This is a conditional rego for driving to events, practice and mechanics. I guess you'd just need to do the run to the border :devil:

Incorrect.

UVP in NSW now is fill in your own form to claim it's "worthy" give them a reason for needing it, and they'll provide you with one for up to 28 days.

You fill in both of these forms yourself, all that you need to be declared "safe" by the form is:

Lights/Indicators

Wheels and Tyres (Road suitable)

Windscreens and windows intact/legal

Suitable seats/seatbelts

Working Brakes

Working Steering

Working Horn.

Odd that you don't need an engine... Maybe flinstones style is allowed with a UVP. Ha ha!

Point number two on those saying you need an ACT and a NSW one to drive from ACT to NSW, you do NOT. NSW accepts ALL other states, and NSW ones are accepted in ALL states except WA.

All of what you said is correct however when you send your documents in or hand them into the rms they limit you for time.

I know this since im a salesman for a dealership and we sell holden, mitsubishi, mahindra, golfcarts, regal roadstar regent bailey avan compass and sunland caravans, camper trailers, kara kar horse floats hyosung and can am quads savage boats and suzuki marine engines.

18 months ago the UVP we could just do in house and put 28 days on it but now they are strict snd the RMS has the final say.

If you say your driving 600klm to brisbane they will give you a 48 hour permit just like the one we got issued on thursday for a customer who bought a new caravan off us.

You also have to provide a blue or pink ticket to prove your car is in working order as you stated above

Hmmmmmmmm interesting and handy to know.

Last time (a few years ago) i had an act permit it said "within act only" or something like that. Makes it easier now if they have changed it!!!!

I am friends with someone fairly senior working out at Dickson motor registry dealing directly with this. Short answer is you will not be granted an UVP for a track car to drive it to/from a circuit. If it's a rally car participating in an event that involves public road you can get an UVP.

The differentiation is that rally's are sanctioned events with approval to operate on public roads (or road related areas) and circuits are not. If you need to get your car to the track, buy a car trailer.

I've had many arguments with him over a few beers on this subject.

    • If the RB29 box in the car is a push clutch, then yes, you will need to deal with the pull clutch on the turbo box. You either buy a pull clutch and don't use the old one, or you do the things needed to convert the turbo box's clutch arrangement over to push. Which is a bit of a f**karound. "Making" a custom tailshaft is the easy part. But you will need to source the front clip yoke - the bit that goes into the output of the gearbox. These are not as easy to find. They are out there, but they don't grow on trees the way that they used to.
    • Indicator bulbs are way too bright to use as a "corner marker" (we call them parking lights too). Sure. Go ahead and do it. But realise that you wil need to come up with all your own wiring to do it, as no-one will have a standard howto worked out for Skylines. It's just a matter of abandoning everything that Nissan have done and starting from scratch. You'd probably be better off retrofitting tailght/brakelight globe bases into the front indicator housings and using the taillight circuit for your corner marker and the brake light as the indicator. You'd need to work out how to kill the marker circuit while the indicator is flashing, otherwise it won't flash on-off, just bright-less bright.
    • Hi. A little bit of an update. It maybe(hope not) looks like i would need a new tranny(it would be "maybe" a cheaper or better option anyway) So i need some info. I know i need a different propshaft(i can make custom one) LSD is not a problem cuz the engine will be still(for now) N/A RB20. So if i buy RB25DET NEO tranny...is there something else i need? I read something about push/pull type but i do not know if i need to "change" something or i can just plug n play onto my engine a go? Thanks for the advice  
    • Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
    • My heads are cathedral port! It's likely possible, but I don't want to add any extra moving parts (I know they don't move) between the heads, manifolds, etc. It will also affect how injectors/fuel rails etc sit and I don't really know if it would change how the FAST manifold goes/sits/fits. I have the LS6 steam pipes already as I have a very late LS1 block so it should be fine. I couldn't find anyone who had ever actually used one for this purpose, it seems 100% of people grind the water pump. The thermal spacers are 12mm and are half way to the cost of the newer water pump anyhow... so if it comes to that I suppose I'd rather buy a new pump. The bearing in the pump I do have is a little.. clunky, but it hasn't done that much time and I never noticed it when the car was together in the past few years, so..
