Got the box in the yesterday all fits up nicely now. This arvo I had a few hours and got the started bolted up as well as the gearbox to engine braces and tapped the sump so I could bolt up the exhaust heatshield.

Few bits and pieces to bolt on under the car and then I'll drop it back down and start doing stuff in the bay. Need to work out a solution to get my sway bar spaced down to fit it around my sump so I'll start bolting all the brackets and mounts back up.

Also picked up some glue this morning and got stuck into carpeting the boot floor... Made a mess everywhere but it didnt turn out too bad.

Still waiting for my sound deadening to arrive. Aramex are the most useless couriers. Don't think I've had one good experience with them.... Don't want to start wiring and getting the interior back together yet until that's all done.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got the boot floor in and drilled to bolt the surge tank and bought some longer bolts to bolt it down but they are still too short 🤦‍♂️ Also need to redo my surge tank hardlines as its now sitting up higher than before and also want to reroute 90⁰ up off the bulkhead fittings and hug the boot interior to maximise my boot space so I can try and fit a pram in there.

Popped the new 525s in, need to pop into work to grab a couple of lugs and I can close it up and install when I get longer bolts then finish wiring it back up.

Sound deadening finally arrived. Started putting some in on friday night. Got a little bit done but still a lot more to go. Need to pull the roofliner out and do under that and also going to put some new fabric over it. Need to have a look and see if i can put underlay under the seat as well to help with exhaust heat back there. Then work my way through the rest of the cabin. Hopefully get it all done on my week off before I start back on the 2nd.

Thanks mate!

Went and picked up some faux suede yesterday from Spotlight $15/m and some spray adhesive and ripped out the headliner and trims. Did one of the rear cards yesterday but I thought I might hold up and borrow my mum's sewing machine and put some lebo stitching in them 🤣 So on hold until Friday and then go through the process of what needles I need and also thread. Thinking red thread to stand out a little and match the car.

Removed the old fabric from the roofliner this morning and got stuck into it. It came up OK, very hard to get all the creases around the sunroof controls as the fabric doesnt have much stretch to it. Shouldnt be able to see much of it once its up but I still know theyre there...

Also decided to go to town on the sunvisors as well. Peeled the skin off the first one and laid it out to see what I thought would work. Doesn't look the best but I need to hand sew it up so hopefully it doesn't turn out too bad.

While the headliner was drying I did the sound deadening and underlay. Prick of a job trying to get it in with all the sunroof brackets running everywhere. Struggled to get it in and looking nice then I realised that I had to take the sunroof out so I could cover the sunroof shade........ So then proceeded to pull the sunroof out and tried to tidy up the underlay, not that anyone will see it 🤣 Was fkn hot sitting in the back of the car doing the deadening and pulling the sunroof out.. my pants were completely saturated and was puddles of sweat pooling on the back seats...

Pulled the old fabric off the sunroof shade and cut a new piece out to go on it. There is a black cloth material that's on the top that has perished and gone brittle, so I'll need to find something UV resistant and cover it.

Will get around to covering the sunroof shade in the next couple of days and hopefully get it back in before I go back to work... Will see how I go.

Awesome work! The sound deadning makes a huge difference! Have you done your whole back seat and doors too?

Thats good to hear! I'm still yet to finish the back as I didn't want to be standing/sitting on it while I was doing the roof. Once that's back in then I'll finish the back seat area and put that all back in then move onto the front doors and floor.

Hopefully kills a lot of the noise and heat coming into the cab so it's bearable for the kids in the back.

Edit: trimmed the roof liner this morning, didnt come out too bad. Will see how it looks once ive got it all back in.

It makes a huge difference. Really makes it feel like a modern car. I haven’t done the roof, so yours will be even better!

Picked up some black pinch weld today to replace the old dirty grey stuff that was in the car and also a couple of cans of duplicolor fabric and vinyl paint. Pulled the interior lights and sunroof controls apart to give them a couple of coats. They actually came up really good, time will tell how durable the stuff is but for not they look great. It's a bit fiddly pulling the light switches out. The one in the sunroof control popped out into a thousand different pieces and I have been playing with it for the last couple of hours trying to get it back together, but finally worked it out.

Mum brought her sewing machine around and showed me how to set it all up and did a couple of practice stiches. Went and picked up some new thread that's thicker than what she had and marked it all out and started on a rear door card piece. Turned out not too bad, its a prick to go around the corners so I'll have to pick it out and try it again tomorrow and fix up a couple little stitches here and there and then I'll mark out the next one and start that. Hopefully won't look too hectic once its all glued into place on the door.

Got the sunroof shade all done and managed to put some roof underlay on the top. It just has enough room to clear the metal piece that runs across the top of it. I couldn't get a good picture installed in the sunroof but I'll get one tomorrow and hopefully put it all back in if I get time.

Painful day... I finished sewing the second back trim and the ends of the stitches kept untieing so I thought I'd drop some superglue on them to keep them inplace. It end up soaking through to the front and leaving white spots everywhere so that went in the bin... Tidied up the first one and stuck it on, didn't turn out to bad. Hard to get it perfectly centred on the panel.

Will have to go get some more thread tomorrow and hopefully work out a better solution to tie the stitches off. Been through almost 60m of thread already for one piece 🤣

While I was waiting for the glue to dry I popped into the shed and put the sunroof and headliner back in. Looks so much better inside having a dark roof (looks light in the pic as I had my big milwaukee lamp shining up for pic). The pinch weld was pretty tight to get on so I had to stretch it open a bit. Need to go around with some pliers and squish it back down as the shade rubs on it atm.

Need to finish the top pillar on the drivers side with deadening and insulation then I can put the sides back in and start on the seat floor.

Remade the passenger side trim today and got it straight onto the door card. Finished the deadening up the top and then got it all back on. Couple of new clips that came with the deadening and put them on, which i had to drill the holes out 0.5mm to get them to go in nicely and hold. Now held on better than what I had them before, won't just be the rear seats pushing them in 😅

Rest will have to wait until next year, and hopefully 2024 will be the year I get to drive it again 🤣🤣

Hope everyone has a good NY and stay safe 🤟

This is going to be great once its all back together. Having a nice interior makes it nice spending time in the car. I did the roof lining and visors in a black velour and painted trims to and really made it more modern.
The door trim inserts are worth the effort.

You going to be doing some roll racing or drag challenge weekend events?

Yeah I can't wait! Should be a lot nicer to drive once it's done. Without the whine of the straight cut gears in the glide it should be mostly exhaust sound now, along with one less fuel pump and sound deadened I'm hoping its a lot quieter in the cab that the babies can sleep on longer drives up the coast etc.

I want to drive it a lot more and have it multi use. I haven't looked into drag challenge too much but definitely interested, would depend on if they have any 1/8 mile speed restrictions without a cage. I want to try and do a bit of everything, missed doing mountain runs and stuff. I'm not sure how it'll go with a half grouted block but I'd like to try a track day at lakeside and just run whatever the lowest power it will make on gate pressure (hopefully under 500whp).

Yeah the safety will what this could do Mph could be an issue, just set a timer in ecu to limit boost/MAP off launch/trans brake release.
I have done plenty of track days with a half grout filled block, just retains a bit more heat.
Keen to see it go around Lakeside.

Haha that's no fun. Hopefully can make low enough power to be able to send it the whole way without running into speed/time issues. With 440whp and the glide we went 10.8 @127mph so hopefully be able to run low 10-10.0s below 140mph.

That's good to hear! Moving back to the stock viscous fan now so hoping that helps keep water temps in check. Need to pick up a fan shroud and see what needs modding to suit the dropped rb30.

Got the passenger front trim done today, went to a slightly bigger diamond so I don't have to sew as much 🤣 finished it and test fit it to find out that its slightly too small around the sides by about 5mm in a couple of places.... Have cut out the new one and also the one for drivers side. Need to mark up and get them done after work during the week. Want to get the rear finished with sound deadening/underlay so I can get the rear seats back in and then start the doors.

Awesome work!  You'll be able to get a job with "Home Built by Jeff" with that trimming work!

Hahah thanks mate! Time will tell how well it holds up 🤣

Got some little bits and pieces done this afternoon. Brought some lugs home from work and a couple different bolts. Got the fuel pumps lugged up in the surge tank. My rubber grommets arrived today as well so I pulled the boot floor up and popped that in. Bought some 50mm long bolts for the surge tank and mounted that down. It holds the boot floor in really well. Hopefully I can get the side trim piece in ok otherwise I'll have to unbolt it and slip it under once I've finished wiring the surge up.

So I broke the sunvisor clips when I removed them... you need to pull the screw out all the way so the clips can pop in when you pull it out. Drilled them out and put an M6 nutsert in and worked out perfect. Tightens down better than before.

Got into the back and put underlay on the passenger tub. It's a little tedious to mould it to shape but got there.

Moved over to the other side which has all the wires running to the back. Pulled out the wires that aren't required that went to the hicas computer. Still need to trace a couple into the boot to see what they do as a few of them were spliced off to others. That will be my mission for tomorrow arvo and then I will continue pulling them out to the front of the car when I have the carpet up.
