I also just got back from a cruise, so nice to be back in it after almost 2 weeks.

Yeh turbos have been added to the list. Ill just have to tell her the extra power came from a new exhaust system haha ...and the money went to great charity?!!

Heres my story. Purchased my 2005 v35 coupe last month. Car came into Australia from importer Jan 2015. Since then it has had 2 Australian owners according to Services NSW (RTA). One is the importer being Extreme Importers in Guildford NSW. The other is a the person i got it from. When registered and complied in Australia for first time it had 67000 ks on it. The first Australian registered owner only had the car for about 12 months. He is italian and lives over near Smithfield NSW. He only did about 1000-1500ks in the car.

Today i got my paperwork from Japan. Last odometer reading at export was 107000 ks. Car is currently reading 68000 ks.

Simple math and detective work proves that importer (Extreme Imports Guildford) spun off 40000ks.

Car is still tight and drives well. Im not pissed off because i got the car for a good price. Will i be chasing it up legally and seeking compensation? Nope!

Will i be notifying services NSW (RTA). Yup.

Other trivial stuff. Car was a one owner female in Osaka. Car was never damaged or modified and scored a high grading on auction papers in Japan.

The device to flash or alter the odometer can be purchased on eBay from $200-$1100. It literally takes less than 5 minutes without removing the cluster.

Conclusion: Shit happens! Im still happy with my car.

My story is very similar to yours, as you would have read, only just wish the woman I bought it off here would tell me the name of the people she bought it off (the importers). So I could also report them to RTA.

Im sorry to hear you had also been lied to as a result of the odometer paperwork, I wonder if you also felt initially that the car was a fraud and in turn treated it as the offender like I had haha.

I took it for its first drive after about 2.5 weeks last weekend, and for the first time since owning it (about 2 months now) I really gave it some. Normally I floor it when im on the Freeway just to do a wanker styled unnecessary over taking maneuver, but never really thrown it into corners and sliding it out with the VDC button off.

Im not sure if it was in haste or animosity towards the car or who ever the f**khead was who wound it back for a profit, but I really REALLY enjoyed the car. I felt a real connection with it for the first time.

Almost like ive dusted off the webs and dust and brought it to life. I think knowing its not a genuine "Low Km" car as advertised has given me a bit of that freedom I had when i used to tear about in my R31's.

Anyhoo, Im hoping to find someone who can do the 40whp exhaust mod over the next few weeks and just have fun with it. We really did pick a lovely model of sports car!

I got all my info from 3 sources. The first being Services NSW. (RTA) Car history check. ($28 from memory). The 2nd was from the Japanese odometer check website. ($95 aussie dollars). Thirdly from the in car GPS! It had the dealer/importer pre programmed in it still. If you look around online at import cars for sale it seems a lot of places have closed up shop and the cars that are still listed have around 100000ks on them now. (Funny that).

Personally I don't think many cars will be imports from Jan this year as everyone knows you can't get away with winding the odometres back anymore. The profit margin for importers and dealers just aint worth it and neither are the penalties. My car drives and rides really nice, Im not complaining. Its still tight and handles well. I guess the bottom line is when buying any car one has to know the difference of how a car drives between say 150000ks and 50000ks. Its a feedback thing from the drivers seat let alone wear and tear of the interior. I knew when buying my car from the start the odometre was not quiet right. But never the less I went with my gut and guessed it had more than what was showing. I have heard of horror stories about other peoples cars being wound back by 180000ks. Im sorry but if you can't tell the difference by looking and driving the car? You should not be buying a car without assistance from someone in the know. BUYER BEWARE!

I must ad that i spent $780 servicing my car last week. All fluids,oils,filters,brake pads,disc machining,fan and power steering belts. The car ran great before. But now it drives and feels perfect. Also gives me peace of mind as I know everything is sorted for long distance trips.

Sports car? Hmmmm i would not really call it that. The V35/36 was never really raced, dragged or drifted in Japan. The car was designed when the head of Nissan was a french bloke from Renault and the car was originally marketed to Japanese men over 40 who liked to play golf. I would call my car a "Japanese V6 two door Commodore". Its not as special as my 1996 RPS13 180SX <<< (Cult car). I can't see v35/36 ever being collectible either.

Just enjoy your car for what it is. ;)

Damn then, I should've just bought a Commodore if thats the case...would've saved a bit of money. Woulda Shoulda Coulda. How about I just call it a Sports Car when no one else is around. ;) Save the embarrassment.

Im ready to do that major service you mentioned, if you feel ok with it I wouldn't mind knowing who you went with. Cant seem to find anyone down my way that I feel comfortable with.

Nah you would not want a V6 Monaro. They are crap and lack overhead cams not to mention poor build quality. A modern V8 Monaro would be OK. But they are just two door Commodores. A old Monaro? That would be nice if I could find one under $100k. But I would still buy something else spending that kind of money. My dream car? Give me a 240z with a RB under the hood.
