First, I decided to get a skyline because, well, the V35 still is a skyline and I always liked this car.

Yes, I've done a lot of ressearch around here and I didn't find the answers to the questions.
From time to time I just stumped into a broken link so I couldn't gather much info.

Anyway, let's go:

Just bought a 2001 V35 300GT, car is ok, apart from some minor issues that I'll deal after, like the power seat buttons getting stuck from time to time, but working, I need to clean that thing soon.

Thanks a lot for all information displayed, I've read a lot of the posts (full software post too!) and the basic maintenance is great, thanks for providing all info.

1) There's a way of knowing which gearbox (apart from manual, Maybe I'm the only person here that just learned how to drive in an automatic. Yes, I'm used to manual geabox only) without going for documents, like any signals, writings? I saw some come with the extroid word written there but apart from this, each othe I saw has the shame shape so I don't know if it's a specific model or year. Mine has nothing written on that but has the tiptronic part too.

2) OK, now you should be wanting to kill me but seriously, I've looked everywhere and didn't find a compatible cable to get info from the nissan. maybe the consult 2 chinese clones will work? someone tried that or just that nissan datascan will do?

3) Someone could please recommend a JDM mechanic used to the V35 in sydney area (may be pretty much in a 50km radius, don't matter).

4) Someone could please recommend an auto electric (don't know how it's called)?

5) Yes, it's my first JDM, my first automatic and my first right hand car, so sorry for the dumb questions at all.

Can't appreciate enough your effort (and patience).

Thanks a lot.

1. I am quite sure the 300GT only came with the 5sp auto. the CVT (Extroid) and the 6sp manual was only on the 350GT. Have a look on the build plate under the bonnet on the right hand side, it will give you a trans. code, it will start with RE5R for the 5sp auto, or RE4R for the 4sp (I think the 4sp was only on the 250GT though), the manual will start with RS6R, and the CVT will start with RE0R.

2. not sure if the Nissan Datascan works ok with the DD engines, but they work ok on the 350GT, otherwise a decent Consult III clone will work well.

3. and 4. sorry I don't live in Sydney, so I can't help there.

5. The only dumb questions are the one's you don't ask, then get yourself in a bind.

Welcome and I hope you enjoy the car!!

Thanks so much for the replies! been working like crazy so sorry for the late reply.

I knew I would get this info from that plate, but I didn't find anywhere info to decode, even found some cool russian sites with a lot of info, but not this one! you saved my day!

In a few months I'll fix all simple issues that arise over time and replace all the fluids not commonly replaced.

Next year possibly I'll try getting a newer coupé model or a 350Z, but having this car means so much for me.

I'll try buying a consult 3 clone then, the cheaper the better, just to help getting the correct info before sending to repair.

Let's hope for a good soul to share his mechanic contact!

Next step is fixing the sound system, the module is dying but the last owner knew about it and told me. the new module arrived (he bought before selling the car), then I just need to get it and buy a new cassette with P2 connector.

Again, thanks so much!

Crazy crazy times going on. sorry for taking so long. ZX350, sent you a PM, please check your inbox.

My car skidded on snow while going to thredbo and I was taken out of the road, luckily the only broken thing is a flat tire and the front bumper skirt (It's the real name?)

what's annoying me right now is:

1) driver airbag light codes displaying even after reset;

2) my stereo is completely crazy, sometimes it doesn't change the volume, other times it doesn't send any output to the boxes. the module has been replaced and I really really think it's something with the main unit (bad wiring / capacitor issue very likely).

Otherwise it was a 1000KM trip with NO surprises as the car drives great and oh god how I do love the manual mode of the gearbox to overtake :)

Next week is gosford car museum but first I need to fix the tire :)

I had encountered both of your problems.

1 - get a mechanic to scan the codes, or get a cable to scan it yourself. If the lights come back after reset very often it means something is wrong, could be the seat belt pretensioner, sensors, ecu, airbag modules themselves, you won't know until you read the codes... There is a way to diagnose without the cable, read:

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/G35/Coupe/2003/srs.pdf

but it's just too much hassle.

2 - V35 zenki (early models) have a design failure and the stereo dash will fry itself almost certainly after so many years. Get an OEM double din dash, an aftermarket stereo unit, a radio cable adaptor, and enjoy.

You don't have to buy new OEM units, they are expensive af. Use Japanese yahoo auction and look for early V35 / M35 double din dash. Remember you will also need the aircon controller. Get importmonster or some other agent to bid, ship it to you.

There are many manuals online to teach you how to DIY take off the dash and put in the new one. First time I did it costed me 45 mins, second time I only spent 10-15 minutes.

Enjoy your car!

Then there is an issue that needs to be fixed.. these cars are not euros, they don't trigger warning lights for no reason. Get someone to read the code, it will likely tell you where the problems is. Wiring under the seats are a common problem, I have also had the clocks spring in the steering wheel go bad.

You got the point! I just purchased the scanner (but I used the G35 manual to read the code though) waiting to arrive. It's the driver's airbag error that is on display. A mechanic here would complete the job like the one ZX sent me over PM? Probably the clocks spring in the steering wheel. these parts are available locally or ebay it?

It's not clear but the issue is on before the skid, so like I said, NO surprises :)

Completed these steps before creating the entry here. it says it's driver's airbag that has an issue. I believe an electrician is up to the job (same for the audio issues) or a mechanic would do it? If it's an electrician I would wait someone indicate one as I have no idea to take the car (apart from the mechanic ZX350 said, thanks mate)

I saw some youtube videos and I really think I'm up to the job. Do you believe that a 300 dollarydoos aftermarket will do? Mine has dual air con button and some I saw on ebay hasn't. Mine doesn't have the DVD/computer but I saw a used one for 300 I think I could go for it as full kit. I'll definitely check this service you told, seems it's gold. For parts I saw the prices and isn't expensive at all, unless it isn't basic maintenance.

I bought a genuine part through amayama, a local model may use the same part, just make sure it has all the required connectors as the stereo controls also go through the clockspring.

Ebay may be another option, but I am not sure what the aftermarket components are like.

Thanks a lot for sharing the info on where you bought it. I may end up buying a complete wheel with the air bag on it if that's the case. Next month I'll drive it to the mechanic and ask his opinion before spending any money. Do you know which is the PN for one with stereo controls but without VDC?

I found this topic below, but I only got more confused. i believe the right one is 25567-7W025 as I searched over the internet. Do you remember yours when you had to buy?

the part I ordered was 25567-7W025 and was correct.  The steering angle sensor as used by VDC was a separate section I had to remove from the old unit and attach to the new one.  I believe this part number is the same for the non-VDC models.

I'll order it soon!
