R33c90
Hi guys I've been having sporadic issues with starting my R33 Series 2 GTST - every now and then I am having to bump start the car to get the engine going. When I trying to start the engine, I can hear a turnover noise and clicking but no engine. I've tried a new battery and also replaced the alternator with the attempt to eliminate an issue with the electrics and now starting to think it could be the starter motor. Has anyone else experienced similar issues, or can give me confidence that a new starter motor should fix the issue? Thanks Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/465028-r33-gtst-having-to-bump-start-car-every-now-and-then/ Share on other sites
Ben C34
Yes. It could be the starter motor. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/465028-r33-gtst-having-to-bump-start-car-every-now-and-then/#findComment-7734544 Share on other sites
KiwiRS4T
Its about the only thing left apart from the earth strap and main lead. SkudR33
Starter motor did that to me in my Camry. Something went faulty in there and it was grounding 24/7 and draining my battery... blind_elk
A simpler, and cheaper, possible solution is to fit a relay to the solenoid trigger wire, so you get maximum voltage to the starter solenoid. R33c90
Thanks for the replies, hugely appreciated! What threw me of thinking it's the starter the motor, is a mechanic saying it could have something to do with the immobiliser tripping and not letting the car start. Which I'm gonna test myself cause I highly doubt it Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/465028-r33-gtst-having-to-bump-start-car-every-now-and-then/#findComment-7738087 Share on other sites
KiwiRS4T
If you can hear the solenoid click but starter doesn't fire its more likely to be a stuffed starter (or the power or earth leads) if you have plenty of power in the battery. admS15
next time it wont start, tap the starter motor a few times with a metal object, (jack handle usually works well). If it starts after doing this, definitely starter motor issue.
