blakeneys
How do I remove the final drive from a R33 diff. The drive shaft is off but the gear is a problem. Thanks if you can help. GTSBoy
A slightly more detailed explanation of what the problem is might help. The reason I say this is that I have no idea what you asked. hardsteppa
Undo the bolts. They are on fkn tight. You will need to be creative like macguyver or give it to a workshop. blakeneys
More info. Have the diff out and everything removed from the housing except the gear that goes through to the driveshaft. Do I belt it out or or does it need to be pressed out. I think it's called the final drive. Not sure. Thanks. Ben C34
You mean the pinion? It goes to the tailshaft. Or prop shaft if American. Drive shafts go to the wheels. Undo nut. Hit it out. GTSBoy
Probably require putting the diff centre back in so you can jam up the gears so you can undo the nut. 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/465108-r33-diff-final-gear/#findComment-7738182 Share on other sites
blakeneys
OK thanks for that. So now I know it's called the pinion I might be able to find more info. I put another diff in only to find it didn't have the sensor so I am now swapping the guts from the reconditioned diff into the old casing. Someone said don't belt the pinion out with a hammer. Has anyone got Mcgyvers number. Haha. 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/465108-r33-diff-final-gear/#findComment-7738198 Share on other sites
GTSBoy
Once the input shaft nut is undone it should only take a light tap to make it move. Be aware that you cannot just drag the guts out of one diff housing and slap them into another without expecting all the clearances to be wrong. it really needs to be set up, either new crush washers in the pinion, or different shims in the sides, or both. Look for youtube vids on setting up diffs to get an idea of how much of a bitch it can be. 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/465108-r33-diff-final-gear/#findComment-7738233 Share on other sites
