Hi All,

My Bora only this week adopted an issue with the horn and washer pump and I'm hoping you can help resolve.

The horn stopped entirely only yesterday, I can hear the switch (or relay?) clicking when i push the horn but there is no noise. Because of the clicking does this mean its likely to be an issue with the horn itself? I can order a used one from the UK.

Similar issue with the washer pump. I can hear the pump working but no water comes out although the washer bottle is almost full. Would this be a blockage? Could the pump be dead even if its audibly spinning?

Thanks folks,

Christian

It's possible that the horn is working but it is so gay you can't hear it? Or maybe start with checking the horn fuse, it may well be after the relay in the wiring (they are on a skyline). Not that a fuse should blow, but it is a place to start.  If not unbolt the horn, hold it on battery - and run a wire to battery + (if there is only 1 wire) or run both wires to you battery +/- to test it.

With the washer pump...there is water, right? If so most likely all nozzles are blocked.  Find the washer bottle where the pumps are, take the hose(s) off and quickly run the washers to see if water comes out, presumably it will because you can hear the motor running. If so put that hose back on and trace it to the bonnet nozzles, pull the hose of the back and repeat the test.  If water comes out there as well pull the washer nozzles off the car and clean them out with a needle or similar

Use leads and check the horn, no need to unbolt it.  But be careful.  I actually use made up leads with alligator clips, but jumpers will work.  Also do like Duncan says with the washer bottle and disconnecting reconnecting the hose etc But try using the needle/pin with the nozzles still in place [saves work].  While your at it you can keep the pin inside the nozzle and turn/swivel it so it sprays in the right place on the screen for you.  They are basically a ball with a hole in them and are designed to swivel about.

Awesome! Love your work gents, thanks. Will try those this weekend.

Duncan, there is nothing gay about Volkswagens. Not even the horn. Its just in touch with itself.

Dont you dare talk about the size of my horn!!

Yeah that horn looks really good! I almost got one of them for my bike, ironically I T-Boned a guy who did not give way before I bought it. :(
