Hello everyone I'm Paul from the uk.

Been the proud owner of an r33 gtst spec 2 auto in sonic silver for 2.5 years now and i've been looking at upping power.

Went to santa pod raceway this weekend to see what the car would do with some like minded owners sadly things didn't go to plan so to cut a long story short I was on my way home and suddenly lost drive, blipped it and the revs jumped up but the car didn't respond and just carried on doing the same speed. I coasted around 100M to where I could pull off the road, as I did I could smell burning :(

Jumped out to find ATF down the side of the car and a split hose from my oil cooler, it was still running out.

Managed to organise some ATF and bodge the hose by bypassing the cooler, drove home with tail between legs and took it very easy.

My question is how much damage have i done? any? none? new box? the oil was still nice and red that was coming out but it did pong a bit. once topped up the box "seemed" fine but I didn't take her above 3k rpm.

I'm going to hazard a guess and say I should take it out, get it into third and give it some therapy and see if it slips at all.

Any other suggestions to tell?

I'm truly gutted.

Yea I just took it nice and easy all the way, box seemed fine but I can't help but worry about it, push comes to shove I'll have to get another box beauty of that is nobody wants auto boxes so they're dead cheap. There was a couple on eBay one for £25 and another for £45 where as the manual boxes go for between £500 and £700 !!

I'm relocating the oil cooler tonight to a more suitable position, then I'll get her out and see, fingers crossed......

Right, pulled my tranny cooler set up to pieces today and and repositioned it all.

Just topping up the fluid and looking for answers on the net but there's nothing definite so...

do I check the level with the engine idling cold? Or hot?

or

do I check the level with the engine off cold? Or hot?

or all four?? Lol

Sorry there's not many auto owners over here in the uk.

Thanks guys.

When the line popped I topped up with 3 litres, the trans came back to life, well it got me home driving gently. The fluid was around 20 miles old no more than that. Topped back up yesterday and tried the dipstick when it was warm and idling it was low, barely registering in fact, turned engine off waited five minutes for it to settle and it measuresd perfect for  a hot engine.

So it's a bit confusing, really want to get this sorted so I can take the car out and see if the box is damaged after what happened.

thanks for everyone's input on this, much appreciated.

    • I'd say closer to OG GTX3582R, just smaller trim - so 59mm inducer/82mm exducer as opposed to 62/82 for the first gen GTX3582R. Yeah EFRs were boss, the EFR8474 is still an absolute beast and it perplexes me that people still go to things like Turbosmart/Garrett etc when the results people are getting with those are pretty unremarkable compared to what you could get with a turbo available well before those options came out.  DriftSquid (I think) "upgraded" from an EFR9174 to a Turbosmart turbo and promised a comparison video - and kinda shuffled awkwardly and did a bit of diversion from the fact that they didn't get any improvement going to the currently massively hyped brand of turbo from a turbo that was a bit of a frankenstein that had been well superceded in it's own range before the Turbosmart unit he put on there even came out. I suspect the EFR would outperform most Xonas for what a lot of less-insane RB owners would go for, in the 400-600kw range but the Xonas are looking hard to beat up to maybe in the mid 700kw range at this stage- basically where EFRs don't really reach, and before the Precision turbos take over.  What the Xonas do well in the "EFR range" is be easier to package etc, and work very well if a divided housing doesn't suit your application.
    • Are you sure the gasket is blown? What are the issues? Thermocure is the only flush I've seen do anything with rust, very impressed with that, Prestone, rust will be by the pool having a cigarette.
    • And since the flush you have a blown head gasket? Have you lifted the head off yet?
