G'day all,

I've searched and asked, but I still haven't got the answers I need. Hopefully the AU delivered GTR owners can shed light(ahem...) on this.

Did the Oz-delivered R32 come with an 'eye level' third rear brake light as standard fitment?

It used to be that all cars after a certain year had to have them retro fitted to comply, but I just did a roadworthy on my GTi-R and was told that, now, if the car didn't come with one, it's no longer required. I've got an import 32 that I previously had to fit a rear third brake light to(over 10 years ago), but it's been off the road for nearly a decade and when it makes it's comeback(soon), I'd rather not refit it if it's not required! I'm about to call the RTA (I'm in NSW) to see if they can help, but in the past that's been futile...

Any thoughts?

thanks in advance.

OK......... Let me clear this up for you.

YES - ADM R32 GT-R's did/do have the high rise brake light as std. As you correctly stated, it needed to comply with the ADR's of the day.

You may or maynot know that Nissan also had to fit front blinkers in the guards for the same reason. These were taken from the 300ZX.

The high mounted stop lamp was taken from the Nissan Pulsar ES Hatch and the part numbers as per the attachment.

Cheers,

Bob.

As it gets closer for my car to be registered again, I still can't work out if I still require a secondary brake light. I'd rather not refit the one I have(purely cosmetic reasons!), but I also don't want another reason to be under the watchful eye of the authorities. I've poured over the latest raft of ADR's, but I still can't find a definitive answer... I think I'm off to talk to the motor registry. Anyone got a story to tell re these lights??

When my JDM R32 GTR was complied in 2014, a strict DORARS policy insisted on the eye level brake light to be installed. Today, DOTARS is more strict than ever.

Many people take them down after compliancing in NSW because it is very rarely policed.

I got defected for my HID's after having them in the car for over a year. It was department of transport on a 'random' vehicle inspection to so not even while night driving and actually using them

So the LED's arent worth getting?

Off topic here i know

Yes off topic, but I'll answer. Absolutely frakking no.

My R32 was imported in 2004 as a personal import so was never complied. I wasn't aware i was supposed to fit a third brake light in order to be legal, when i brought the car from NSW to VIC and had to get a roadworthy no mention was made of it..........

Back to the extra brake light question: has anyone installed a smaller(read: neater and less obtrusive!) LED 'strip' style third light successfully? If I have to have a light, I want it to function, be out of the way and somewhat aesthetically ok!
