Hey Sydneykid,

Just looking at your front bar, looks very different to mine. What year and spec is your Staj??

Ken

Hi Ken, the build date was February 1997 and it's a base model, no woodgrain, no sunroof/s, no sat nav or TV. I picked this one because of the front bumper and headlight design and the blue colour.

It needs shocks real bad and it was owned by a smoker (not usual for Japan) so it reaks. But nothing that 2 days with the steam cleaner won't fix. A couple of days geting the scratches polished and/or touched up and the LHS rear (white door) painted, then it will be ready for rego. Add 1 tow bar and away we go.

Hahaha, the foot brake still freaks me out when I use it !!

This weekend I'll be able to confirm if R34 GTT mags fit and clear everthing, I'll grab some pics as well just so you can see how/if the fill the gaurds etc..

SK - (a bit off topic), how did your fabricator go with making up a tow bar ? I'd be keen to buy one if it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

well +16 offset stick out too far ...unless i buy some overfenders.(flares).ie:

The Stagea is still in the panel shop and I haven't had a chance to get the tow bar measured up. We had a hectic few weeks of racing, one car dropped a diff, it was on the way out, no loss. Another copped a severe over rev (14,000 rpm +) due to a missed shift and another blew a head gasket (no, I didn't assemble that engine). Thankfully the other 2 ran like clockwork all weekend.

I you want, I will ask how much to make 2 both at the same time. I can then send it down or you can pop up and get it fitted. Anyone else want a 2.2 tonne capable tow bar? Maybe a group buy chance here. :(

Jeff at C-RED knows what fits and what dosent, I am looking at putting 19 inch Budnik's on http://www.budnik.com/techInfo.asp you can find the way to work out the exact wheel size you can use for any brand on any car.

Wheels are from http://www.ziggyshotrods.com in NSW, 19 inch BILLET'S.

Sounds good. 2.2 tonne is a damn big one !! I was looking at something around the 1.5 max, but I suppose it won't matter ;) I'd be interested in what sort of $$$ he can do one for fitted and also unfitted. Funds are slowly running out after buying the car ;)

Thanks

J

There seems to be 2 specs of tow bars these days, one around 1.2 tonnes for box trailers, bike trailers, tinnies and the like. Then there is the big one around 2.2 tonnes for car trailers, caravans and big boats. More info next week inc prices when I get a chance to get ours registered.

    • I agree on doing some better than factory pistons, rods, and oil pump. For anyone using the vehicle on the road, I don't get why everyone wants big cams. The stock cam profile, with some more lift would be mint for road usage. Everyone going big cams and then wondering why it isn't as responsive in traffic, when they've shifted the torque curve upwards an additional 1000RPM. Make torque, at lower RPM. Sure it's not as cool as claiming "500KW" and revving it to 8,0000RPM, but that same torque 2,000RPM earlier... Then you don't need the extremely high end pistons and rods, and blah blah blah.
    • Personal experience. Those f**kers burn. And are actually a PITA to put out. Next time I walk down the back, I'll snap a photo of what the inside of the bonnet looks like when that thing ignites. PS, powder fire extinguishers are useless on that stuff too as it's fibrous and when it ignites, it starts to pull apart. And you end up just blowing powder through a sieve effectively. ย  Like the big thing is, if it's fire resistant, it's job is to stop what burning? The METAL above it? It's just to try keep heat off the bonnet paint work.
    • Oh man, sorry, $60.00000000... ๐Ÿ˜›
    • That's more or less what he meant. What it really means is that you do not have to go full crazy on the build. Don't need the best oil pump, expensive rods & pistons, big cams, etc. You can upgrade whatever you want instead of using stock level items, but you don't have to. Having said that - any time an RB is opened up, if anything is getting replaced, I think the opportunity should be taken to do all the sensible upgrades. Pistons, rods, pump, etc.
