Its that time of the week again where i find my self ALREADY cleaning my car. I don't know about you but when i wash my car i give it good'ol clean. Thing is that but the time i've run through washing the body, cleaning my rims, chamios my car, vaccum interior, wipe down interior...there is like a full on routine that goes on, i l've lost about half the day. Then when i go take my car for a spin and get back home, my car needs another wash. hahaha.... It maybe that the colour of my car makes dirt stand out more than others (gun metal grey), or where i live is covered in a think layer of dust but there has to be away to keep it seemingly clean with out slaving. However,my car is so worth it the elbow grease.

Is it possible that there is a quick wash achieveable at home? (don't like using car washes cause they suck! and paid a car wash $30 to clean/vaccum and was the worst clean ever!)

Also is it just me who hates it when people lean up against your car and leave smudges. My girl laughes at me when im cleaning up after peoples efftects on my car, but dude my car is my car and it has to be spotless.

I realise that this whole thing i wrote is rather point less but could be interesting to see what people say.

Cheers

JJ

Also what is annoying is when u spends all the time washing it then the next morning u see that all this dust has settled on it, ah well...at least when u actually do finish washing u feel good when you look at your baby.

Try a midnight purple one!!! its a dirt magnet, especially the back of it, must create some kind of vacum that sucks dirt/dust onto the rear of my car

so the laser wash is just jets spraying at your car?

Nah dude, it's the pleasure of owning a skyline, every time we go past it creates a vacuum (imagine a jetwash affect)

I hate it how you just finished chamoising your car, not a single mark on it, you touch it by mistake and wipe it off straight away, then you walk away and come back later, only to have finger prints and the dust that seems to appear from nowhere.

Nothing worse then a big dirty bird shit though.

don't ever let anyone 'lean-up' against your baby. It's more than fingerprints they'll leave.

Your 'true' mates will understand this concept.

........just as with the weather, if it's bad everyones car (loved or not) looks equally dirty!

A black line looks sick and all but damn it gets dirty so quickly. Even in an enclosed garage, the dust just settle in layers.

I used to clean my car quite often but now with the water restriction in Vic it has become a pain to go to the car wash.

Does anyone here try steam cleaing their engine?

My dad has one of those Steam Dream at home and was thinking of steam cleaning the engine. But is there certain area you are not meant to steam clean?

like near electronics etc.

I steam my engine every month......always take my Aldi plastic bag to cover the foamy filter............electronics and fuel/air are sealed units, as long as you don't flood the motor and other areas with a 'Noah' amount of H2O, she'll look foolly schick afterwoulds mate! (use a spray -on -rinse -off wax also, to get into those nooks and crannies and prevent rust!

PS. "it's just a car".....it can't be your real mates saying this (they never would????). What sort of cars are theses 'A to B' people driving that say this. (I'd bet you they're company cars or sh1t deathtrap boxes!!

whats the laser wash thing? seen it around but thought it was just another car wash?

It's not "just another car wash".... and yes, you will still need to do some minor detailing afterwards, but nothing apart from water and foam touches the car.

The laser wash not only cleans the car, but it also cleans UNDER the car too!

As you're driving into it, you drive slowly over high pressure jets that clean up underneath the car, then it tells you when to stop, so you stop, it soaks the car in hot foamy stuff, then it soaks again, then it rinses, and it does all this other kewl stuff (depending on how much you pay) I just run my car through the basic $7 wash, but if you're on your way out somewhere, and you want the car clean without spending heaps of time washing it before you go out, its a great option.

You cant use it as the 'only' option, because there are some bits it just cant get to, deep hollows in mags etc, but as for the paintwork, it leaves it spotless, and a few minutes driving dries up all the drips.

Oh yeah.... and you need to brake lots when you come out of there... because the brakes get very wet and the first time you go to brake, the brakes don't want to work.... but that's the only set back, and it goes away when the brakes dry out.

:headspin:

    • I'm running a Haltech Platinum Pro with the stock map for the RB20DET + tweaks for my build. When I started it this morning, the IAT was at 32F/0C (Outside temp was ~42F) and the AFRs went off the scale for my AEM gauge. I let it run for ~30 seconds then turned it off. I then did a smoke test, by hooking into a vacuum line directly behind the throttle body, and confirmed there was no leaks ( i let the smoke tester run for ~5 minutes / confirmed it was generating smoke before hand ). I then started the car again, after fixing a power steering leak.... and it seemed to be happy for ~30 seconds (was at ~11/12), but then seemingly shot back up to ~18 again. I then let the car run for a few minutes, thinking this was just cold start related, but the AFRs never came back down. I didn't let the car fully warm up, so maybe this makes sense, but I'm not sure what to do? The AFRs, when I last ran it, were normal, but because of personal reasons I haven't been able to break in the car. It was rebuilt last year.
