Hi as title suggests I'm using an RB20 ecu to run my 25 drift sled and the vct doesnt seem to be working. Can not hear the solenoid click at all, have tried jacking the car up and had the wheels moving and still doesn't seem to work.

As far as i can work out the tuner has tried to use the air con signal pin in the ecu to try and trigger the vct. From the looks of it it seems to be done right, I'm starting to wonder if this is a software problem and he hasn't flashed the ecu to now know to use the air con...? He said he didn't know if it was working or not but didn't have time to check as we had other dramas that day with the car..

can anyone confirm that this is how you do it?

thanks

i haven't got the software myself that's what i needed the tuner to do but i was trying to work out if it was a mechanical problem or a programming thing. Tbh he didnt seem to care if it worked or not which is annoying as that's one of the things i needed him to do..

yeh i don't think the vss is needed in my case as I'm trying to trigger it with the a/c as rb20 ecu doesnt have vct option at all. The other option in Nistune's manual is to use the fuel pump idle up pin as apparently the ecu adjusts the standard fuel pump but when you upgrade to better pumps this is no longer needed. This sounds a lot harder, messier though.

I just wanted to see if how hes modified the board is correct as there's no diagrams on Nistune's site.  I'm pretty sure he just hasn't uploaded the files that let the ecu know that your now using the a/c so the solenoids not getting any signal atm....

Perhaps he hasn't flashed it with the correct firmware.. you have 2x options either trigger it from the green LED output OR use the AC trigger out.

You really need the Nistune software, consult cable to work this out.

Where are you located? I have a tuner license... will diagnose/fix for slabs of 150 Lashes

If the feature pack firmware is not installed you will need the ECU reflashed.  This is not the same as just using Nistune software to alter the tune, etc.  This is using the Nistune programmer.  Not all workshops that tune Nistune are "dealers" that can also program the boards.  You will need to ask your prospective tuners whether they are capable.  Any one of them should be able to tell you whether the feature pack firmware is installed though.  Nistune helpfully tells you if it is as you connect.

I was saying to use Nistune to see if he has the correct firmware.. and if he does, is it actually setup correctly.

Matt from Nistune will flash them for free, just pay for postage back.

Matt from Nistune will do a lot more than that.  He has performed deep surgery in my ECU on a couple of occasions to help me get the air-con working post Neo transplant.  Turns out that along with all the (simple) wiring problems of trying to use R34 ECU to work with R32 climate controller, my ECU was borked.  Had dud circuitry.  Matt spent a lot of time and just happened to have spares of the rather esoteric devices needed to repair it!

In one of the older software versions, there was an issue where the VTC attributes in the address file were crossed up, effectivly making the logic impossible to activate it (unless you knew the issue was there, and could swap the values accordingly). I had this issue personally.

Can't recall if it was ECU specific (type 2 Z32), it was the rpm engage/disengage fields that were ass about.

rb20 ecu cannot run vct. since rb20s never had it. it needs to be run off a trigger from either a boost controller with an aux output or a switch.

only way to get it to work as per normal would have been by using a z32 ecu instead of rb20.

This is no longer true.  Nistune's new feature pack firmware has changed this.  Which IS EXACTLY WHAT WE SAID ABOVE!

No, you're wrong.
