Hello everyone.

I just bought my car few months ago

Its R31 RB30 N/A GXE auto 1990 . and soon will convert to manual.

I fixed few things myself:

Change the engine oil and filter.

Fuel filter.

Air filter.

Brake pads.

Fan clutch.

Radiator flush

Horn.

Install water temperature gauge.

.

Bushes (mechanic) as its done for roadworthy. And tires as well.

.

ANYWAY , I have an advance extractor comes with the for $50 extra, it's almost new, I take off the shield and find out the studs missing 2 the left side and 2 the right side. I guess the already broken, anyway I tried to take off the rest but first one brakes straight away, so I stopped. I took to mechanic and quoted "$500 with new stars end nuts"!! I said to him I have it with me then he said "$400"!!!!

Is that a normal price or he trying to fool me or something?

Cheers guys

Depends on on how many studs are broken, if all 12 need doing then $400 sounds about right, but it is usually only the outer ones that break, just get another quote. A set of studs, nuts and washers/ yokes cost about $100 alone. Doing it yourself require a fair bit of mechanical ability and some specialist tools, most mechanics outsource this work to a specialist thread doctor.

Well, thanx for your replay.
Yeah probably the others will breaks as well, I guess I will go and get another quote to make sure that's a good price.

Anyway much appreciated

Cheers

gees for that amount of money would be cheaper to get a new head. I bought a head off gumtree recently that had been machined and with new seals and everything for like $250.  The head gaskets are cheap too.

Would be a lot easier to tape up the ports and drill/ezy-out the studs while it's sitting on the floor.

That's a good deal!

I wish if I have much time to take the engine down but I can't it's my daily ride and work.

Probably I will keep on eye on gumtree etc.

Thanx mate
