I'm skipping that and going straight to motor/box out, then I'll look at the head and you can come over for some beers and laugh...

I must say, it has survived many many many many track days and numerous anti-lag 2-step launches too (on private property ahem..)

fuuark that, big cams are gay on a stock motor.. I would go big cams if I had a built motor, solid lifters, cnc ported head, blah blah blah and rev it's mum to 10k rpm witha  sequential box.

But nah.. it's a stocker heap of shit.

Goal: 400kW stock bottom end.

It can still do it! lol

LOLOLOL.. yeah and watch a few rods go through the block when the rest of the Ringlands are smashed and snag on the cylinder walls lololol

See no worries, you'll still have a few rods in there, gotta keep it positive lol

le siet bok updates, pulled off cat (turbo shrapnel filter) tapped out bits of engine and turbo:

then went onto disconnect all the hoses, accessory loom, blah blah blah. Removed the AC compressor, powersteering pump and cabled tied them both out of the way (don't want to regas because tight arse asian). Removed nuts on engine mount. And yes, something had to go wrong.. ended up snapping the coolant hose connector that goes from motor to firewall. Lucky wasn't the heater core hose fittings.

And yeah, managed to take off the bonnet on my own, aesthetics - not really I've gone fat.

So now, as you may have seen in the WTB section, I'm searching for a motor being a neo or just a built rb25det. Let's see how that goes :)

Unfortunately with so much going on, I won't have much of a budget to fry. Just waiting on NST to go up in price and I'll sell my shares to build this turd into a glorified fast turd.

    • Depends on the year/model - mine is the version of the N55 which came with an e-gate however the "PWG" (pneumatic wastegate) versions actually can also do this.  They use a vacuum setup to "pull the gate open" against the spring instead of "push it closed" like conventional wg setups.   This naturally means they can actually control boost down to a very low level/just open the gate if they want to.
    • They have e-gates. At cold start they have the gate fully open to heat the cats faster. Then during cruise as mentioned fully open wastegates reduce exhaust pumping loss.
    • Ill stick with my black Friday sale pirellis.  They were the factory option and a damn good price when on sale.
    • Hi Tao. My dump was ground out to provide clearance over the used swing arc. But when the clip fell off, the flap was free to travel too far. Got stuck. That's all. There's decent preload too. You may remember that I asked for a low pressure actuator because I wasn't able to tune the car immediately, and a proper actuator probably would have left the car undriveable. Or at least barely safely driveable. But it hasn't been an obvious problem in terms of the gate blowing open under normal use. Well, maybe it has. The turbo is quite laggy compared to stock - so an actuator upgrade will be done first after the supporting mods are done and it's dyno'd to stop it pinging. Hopefully the gate has actually been lifting early. If it has, it has been necessary for me anyway, because as I said earlier in this thread, I had to back off the ramp allowed by the boost controller, to stop it pinging. I might have been in a bit of trouble if it hadn't been as slow to build boost as I have found it. In fact - given that I will get it onto the dyno soonish - I think I'll order an actuator from you pretty soon, so we've got it there if it is clear that there's no point continuing to try tuning with the low pressure one.
    • I've always wondered why my brothers BMW is louder in Eco mode. Do they have e-gates from factory?
