Murray_Calavera
100% agree with this. Our poor datto's should really be getting compared to E30 or E36 BWMs for a fair comparison. 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/468064-doses-sometimes-diy-and-pay-someone-home-boat-improvement-thread/page/151/#findComment-7977558 Share on other sites
No Crust Racing
This is why I struggled so much with continuing with the S13 rather than just dropping the good engine into an 86. Ultimately, I'm only sticking with the S13 because I've had it so long and just don't want to sell it, simple as that. 2 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/468064-doses-sometimes-diy-and-pay-someone-home-boat-improvement-thread/page/151/#findComment-7977561 Share on other sites

Kinkstaah
Where's any of these new euros in WTAC? It's not that simple. What you're seeing is things like better matched turbos from the factory for displacement. AVERAGE power matters lol. Shifting speed with DCT etc matters. Yes, bump steer and kinematics do matter, but we're talking about racetracks here, not doing rally. You used to have to mod cars a lot to get to where cars come out of the factory now. They come pre-modded, that's about it. It's absolutely easier to get a 340kw M4 Competition, because all it needs is a tune and comes with a 3L TT with tiny turbos ready to go, this is what you pay 140K for. Remember, this is for fun. They are less fun. Want to go fast? Buy an actual race car or an open wheeler and absolutely massacre any road car and laugh at them/us for even bringing a stupid boat out on the track. f**k, actual Go-Karts will turn better times if you want to do some insane superkart stuff before you die doing said superkart stuff. 6 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/468064-doses-sometimes-diy-and-pay-someone-home-boat-improvement-thread/page/151/#findComment-7977573 Share on other sites
Jasoncauser
My way of thinking is I just love driving fast (in a controlled environment of course lol) I love that my 32 has no driver aids and that I have to drive it. I may only be doing 1.13's at Wakefield but Im on a buzz for a good few days after. New setup would be nice to compare if Wakefield reopens Did the gokart thing (125cc Rotax 2 stroke) for a few years, but my 50 year old body cant handle the violence of extended karting sessions lol Modern cars, you are like a passenger, it does the driving while you sit back and enjoy the ride, sort of haha 2 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/468064-doses-sometimes-diy-and-pay-someone-home-boat-improvement-thread/page/151/#findComment-7977596 Share on other sites

You don't. Or if you do, you do it for fun? It's only a shit box to you because you're accustomed to it. You just want a new shiny thing instead of enjoying the thing you built. Really you have to ask yourself what you find fun about the journey and target it. Objectively your car is great and you seem to need more seat time. Go read a review of the same people who drive a R chassis who have also driven a modern BMW. You can see as clear as day which one they find more entertaining/rewarding to actually sit in the seat of and want to go driving in. I still remember Carlos Lago saying his LS swapped S13 was a better car to drive than a P1/LaFerrari or 918. https://youtu.be/w-BEXoI9J-M?t=361 There you go. 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/468064-doses-sometimes-diy-and-pay-someone-home-boat-improvement-thread/page/151/#findComment-7977609 Share on other sites
robbo_rb180
I think there's the enjoyment/challenge with building something yourself and seeing how it performs vs X Product/workshop. Like you I am way over invested in the race car and I am always thinking I should sell and buy something I can drive there, easier to maintain and better from the start but cbf dealing with people to sell it. The biggest thing is it should be fun going out and driving the car. Once that enjoyment is gone maybe look at just parking it up for a while under a cover. 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/468064-doses-sometimes-diy-and-pay-someone-home-boat-improvement-thread/page/151/#findComment-7977610 Share on other sites
No Crust Racing
"I should sell and buy something I can drive there, easier to maintain and better from the start" This. For me it's the ease, because easy = less time and money needed to enjoy. There's a reason I am spending bulk time riding MTB in the last 12mths, cheap, easy, fun, friends, speed/skill needed, adrenalin/risk etc. It's accessible. I should not have bought that XR5 which is taking time away from S13, but I really wanted to try my hand at engine building, so here we are lol Wow, what a random AF thread... 1 2 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/468064-doses-sometimes-diy-and-pay-someone-home-boat-improvement-thread/page/151/#findComment-7977611 Share on other sites

robbo_rb180
"Johnny's should have bought a BMW and random chat thread" One of the biggest things to with the 90s shitboxes is the nostalgia. Look at all the senior gentlemen in their chrome bumper stuff. We are now becoming those guys. Where everything was better " back in my day" 1 2 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/468064-doses-sometimes-diy-and-pay-someone-home-boat-improvement-thread/page/151/#findComment-7977615 Share on other sites

Jasoncauser
hope your not a smoker lol I have always trailered my car to the track, seen too many times a brakedown or crash and having to pay a crap load for tow home. I dont know how you guys do it lol and with a modern car, more likely to be driven to track, flogged, then driven home, you are all nuts haha 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/468064-doses-sometimes-diy-and-pay-someone-home-boat-improvement-thread/page/151/#findComment-7977620 Share on other sites
No Crust Racing
Trailer for sure, but easy to say when you live somewhere that has the space to store trailers, daily and race cars, etc. City life is not as simple with race cars, storing a car/your daily or tow rig AND a trailer safely is just plain harder. 6 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/468064-doses-sometimes-diy-and-pay-someone-home-boat-improvement-thread/page/151/#findComment-7977622 Share on other sites

MBS206
Just hire a trailer for the few times you go to the track... Also, those new cars, all great and fast, until one sensor goes on the fritz. Was just helping the guys near us prep for the 6 hour at Bathurst. Had issues with TCS wanting to be on permanently (and kicked in). New yaw sensor as it had crapped out, that fixed the fault codes, but issue still present. Final fix, bleed the brakes... It decided it was upset with brake pressure when TCS was trying to "control the car"... And that was in a car already 14 years old but full of euro electronics... All those modules are great, until they start doing stupid things... 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/468064-doses-sometimes-diy-and-pay-someone-home-boat-improvement-thread/page/151/#findComment-7977798 Share on other sites
