Well it had to happen sooner or later. Coming home last night, turned right off Victoria Rd and onto the back streets to get to my house. Unknown to me, an unmarked cop car occupied by 2 female cops was in the oncoming traffic. They didn't like the speed at which I took the corner and so hung a left to follow me. I didn't cut them off or anything, they were miles up. But I like taking that corner pretty fast usually. Nothing dangerous at all, just moderately fast. Nowhere near losing traction, and not revving it or anything.

They followed me and pulled me up several corners later about 10 metres before I got to my driveway, and asked to see my licence. They said I had been pulled up for speeding, and the manner in which I was driving. I said I was never speeding (it's very hard to do on the street I turned onto anyway, it's full of speed humps so why would you bother?) but said I had accelerated quickly up to the 50kph speed limit.

So anyway, I never got a ticket, but I am kinda pissed off that they chose to pull me up at all. I think they couldn't get me for anything because they knew I wasn't really speeding or driving dangerously, they just wanted to see if they could hit me with a trumped up ticket. Since I haven't lost any points on my licence, they would have realised it'd be a waste of time to give me a ticket because I'd contest it and win.

Anyway the point of this post is I don't think I handled the situation properly. I was very cooperative, didn't really question what they were doing other than to ask why I was being pulled up. But aside from that the bitches^h^h^h^h^h^h^h cops were pretty blunt and rude. If they felt that they could have given me a ticket and made it stick I've no doubt they would have done so. I handed over my licence etc and did everything asked without complaining.

What I really want to do next time is discourage cops from pulling this sort of stunt again. It wastes everyone's time and only serves to give the cop/s in question a power trip, and lets them know they got away with it and they'll try it again. Anyone got any advice? Like what can I say to tell them they're being xunts and wasting everyone's time.

I wonder what would have happened if you kept driving till your reached your house, parked the car and walked in the house..??..

They couldnt get you for anything because they had no proof... I think they arent allowed to do you for anything unless they got their radar on you or have to follow you for around 3km before they can sus weather youre speeding or not, and its pretty hard to follow somebody for 3km in a residential zone to sus out if theyre speeding because the speed varys so much..

Yeah without a radar I think they need to follow you for longer than they followed me. Either way I wasn't speeding so it would have been impossible for them to get me for speeding ;)

Z32 Airlines yeah I think I might push my luck next time. Having an impeccable record which they will see when they radio my licence ahead will give me more leverage I think. I have heard many stories of people who get pulled over for similar things as mine (or LESS - ie they were driving completely normally) and they get done hard, simply because they've lost a few points and a judge would think that makes them an irresponsible hoon.

LOL!

Had to happen sooner or later.

I've had FOUR pullovers since I had this car for NO tickets issued - just cops wanting to bust your chops.

They often try to work via inference - one of them said he was trying to follow me and had to do 75km/h in a 50 zone to keep up; therefore I must have been doing something fast.

Just say nothing - they're trying to trip you up.

I have to admit that even moderately quick driving in a Skyline LOOKS fast.

I've had various people have a drive of my car and I know they drive slower than me yet it looks like it's above 50km/h.

If you don't brake for corners, don't brake for roundabouts, the cops do not like it.

It's useless trying to explain that 8 or 9 inch wide tyres means grip is in abundance or that the car can handle it safely.

Bah thats not harrassment, come out west !!

Try doing a RBT when you got a gun pulled on you for absolutely no reason at all other than you are driving home with 3 passengers doing under the speed limit on a 70km/h road.

:) :)

I can fully appreciate that it could have been much worse. Just getting a ticket even though I would have defeated the charge would be a total royal pain in the arse so I'm glad they didn't bother trying. Also they could have done something similar with defects. It's all legal, but there are people get busted with stock stuff FFS. Again, pain in the arse to get it cleared.

My gf was being feisty, she could have convinced them to give me a ticket :D It would have been worth it if they did though. She was really starting to piss them off by saying stuff like there are distance limits between when you do an offence and when they can pull you over, and the cop started arguing saying that there isn't. I don't know who was right, but either way the cop was getting flustered and was put on the back foot.

i'm a cop and it's simple guys. They pull skyline owners over because most of the cars that are used in armed holdups etc are either a WRX or a skyline. Trust me cops know how fast these cars can go and how easily it would be for the owners to get away from a chace, so cops pull these cars over randomly just to do checks. Thats why no tickets have been issued! They are simply running your rego and lisence details throu the system to see if your car is linked which most the time isn't. Any more questions relating to police just ask. Happy to answer. As for me, i simply just get special consideration when the badge comes out.... =-). Just kidding.

Not really surprising. A mate of mine is Highway Patrol and he is the biggest hoon. Drives holdens but still, you get the drift.

I've only been hasselled once in the line but in my days in V8s with long hair it was all the time. I used to argue with my mate and say it's not fair but he didn't care, he just said "you're a magnet, we can't help ourselves."

hehe yeah seems to be something i've come to grips with now! ive had a fair few defects (about 25) in my time, but hey thats the law whether the stuff is actually dangerous or not! but stuff like this is definately a time waster... been pulled over for exactly the same reason as you JimX, but i was a P plater then in a lancer,

they just said to me " do you know why you've been pulled over"

/me "no"

/cop " you went around that corner a bit fast didn't you?"

/me " i wasn't speeding"

/cop "look your on your P's, your gonna get targeted; have a good night"

couldn't believe it at the time! but it's all fun and games

i got defected for my BOV - the cop tried to explain what it did and why it was a defect.

the cop described an externally venting, external wastegate.. but i couldn't convince him otherwise LOL

Great to see a member of the constabulary happy to address our concerns

I had the same feeling about this, skylines are regularly pulled over and in most cases for nothing more than an ID check. So many of them are stolen and used to commit crimes that police are simply trying to keep tabs on them.

That said, I might add an experience I had last year.

Coming home one night, like Jimx i was very close to my place when I noticed a set of lights behind me which had been there for some time while I was taking the back streets home. Now considering prior to this I had been followed to my house by a bunch of drunk tools which thoroughly freaked me out, I was being very very cautious. To check if the car was following me, I continued driving at around 50kph,in the pissing down rain, around the block, past where I would normally turn off, the mystery car followed. After doing a loop and ending up back in my original position the car was still right behind me, I couldnt make out what sort of car, and I was really starting to get the shits. I proceeded to do 2 more laps of this block near home before it was blatantly clear whoever it was behind me was tailing me.

I got jack of it so halfway through the 3rd lap I stopped, in the middle of the road and reversed back to the bumper of the car behind me and got out.

Much to my surprise, it was two casually dressed under cover police who demanded I get back in my car.

I did, and was forced to put my window down (remember that pissing down rain?) and one officer began having a go at me for not indicating around the corners while i was leading them around in circles. After I then gave them a peice of my mind about following me in the early hours of the morning without due cause in an unmarked car AND literally metres from my house (which they would be completely aware of as they no doubt ran my plates), they mumbled something and walked back to their car and drove off.

That shat me off - while I understand their motivations and actions 99% of the time, this was one example of totally unessesary harrassment.

/End.

Fark that !! They want you back in your car so they can talk "down on you" so that they are the king sh1t and have all the power. In that case if they didn't want me outside of my car they coulda just farked off and left me alone.

My patience has long disappeared for cops, no respect at all !!.

I've had cops follow (tailgate) me thru 5-6 suburbs and the only thing that has stopped me from being put in lockup over night is the fact that i've had a chick with me in the passenger seat that is stressed as fark and just wants to get away from them.

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
