My first harrassment by cops.

I've been pulled over for taking a corner "too fast". I argued hard with the cop that what I was doing was legal - he argued that my tyres were screeching (they weren't) so it was a his word vs my word type thing. He was looking hard to defect me but couldn't, his mate in the paddy wagon then called him back to go chase someone else.

Hmm, maybe being pulled up for no reason is a sign that there's not enough crime being committed in your area.

JimX,

All I can say is take it to court.

I was zipping through the backstreets of Gladesville when I noticed far behind me a car trying to keep up. I was in my brothers WRX at the time and I could just make out a paddy wagon about 400m behind. I pulled over and these 2 fat ugly chicks got out of the PW and told me to get back in my car. I am 6'5" and said that I was fine standing up and what was their problem. They said I was speeding and that I was gonna get a ticket. I asked how they measured my speed and they said they had a radar......yeah right, I asked to see the radar and that PW are not fitted with calibrated speedo's. I was being a tad obnoxious and the next thing I know I had 3 other cars speeding in from all directions. I was shocked as I was not aggresive, I stayed leaning up against the car the whole time. Anyway, I got a ticket for 15-30kmh, as soon as they wrote out the ticket, I borrowed their pen to fill out the court election. They were not impressed.....

I went to court 4 months later and the prosocutor dropped the charges as they knew I had all the ammo I needed to win.

The cops will give you all the police statements and your driving record before you go into court. These 2 DUMB ass cops had conflicting statements, they had followed me on different roads for different distances and even got the car colour wrong.

While I will admit to exceeding the speed limit, I was not reckless. While we must adhere to the road laws, the cops must also adhere to the laws.

Take it to court, you would be suprised how easy it can be, make sure you write a statement and get all the details about where you were stopped and what an angel you are on the road. Get some statements from reputable friends who have been in the car when you are driving. Other Cops, doctors, judges, etc are great ammo.

Have a go, if you loose you will only have $45 more to pay.

Winning the court case was just reward as both cops were there and were not happy when I won.

Man, cops are alright in Bathurst, that is untill they do a blitz and bring all the Syd cops with em and they dont hold back cos they arent local and they dont give a toss who they pi$$ off, which is nearly everyone. Best thing to do is leave your car at home and get drunk somewhere . When i used to have my 31 and was on my way to work at bout 11 and doin bout 100 in a 60, a car come up behind me, and it had pretty blue and red lights and a cool sound, it was an old camry with 2 plain clothed detectives. Anyway i co-operated handed the license over, did the breathyliser and apoligised, he just said if he caught me doind that kind of speed again hed take my license off me, very lucky indeed.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, it only annoys the shit outta me when I'm late for work or something similar, when I'm not actually speeding, but I'm not slowing down as much for round abouts and corners and taking them rather quick, when they pull you over for an RBT and a check up.

Pisses me off, but hey, if somebody had stolen my car and the cops pulled them over, I'd be thankful for a long long time.

And yeah they don't like it when you don't brake for corners and round abouts, I was driving the girlfriends car today, the speedo is out something shocking, 50 on the speedo feels like 60km an hour, I was sitting on 50 and they were gaining, I wasn't about to accelerate.

Got to a roundabout, made sure I was on the brakes for ages.. I don't like the 150 dollar fine for not having my licence on me.

JimX, my life of owning imports has been a difficult one with a father who was in the police force for 18 years and Highway Patrol for 15 of those, he was always on my case, but in the few times that the police attention could have been classed as unwanted and unwarranted "harrassment" he helped me out, one such time I was in the same situation as you, ask them for proof that you were speeding, ask them for proof that your tyres were "screeching" which indicates excessive speed for the road surface or conditions i.e. unsafe, ask them to prove that you ran a red light, stop sign, no left/no right turn. If they cannot prove any of the above and they have "booked" you for speeding, then there would be no grounds for the ticket, also then go to chat with the guys at Injection Perfection at BK airport and ask some general questions about radar equipment (they do alot [ALOT] of the police radar calibration) such as range of the equipment accuracy etc. this will help you prove that they may have been out of the effective range of the radar equipment anyway and so they may not have had an accurate taking of your speed. With this info and those questions at hand, when in court your case should, be thrown. Good luck and don't let the bastards win!!!

Oh, definitely. If they had pulled me up and said "We've had a spate of Skyline thefts in this area lately, we are just checking to make sure yours wasn't stolen" then that would have been perfectly fine. It was just the attitude of the cops and the alleged reason behind the pull-over that pissed me off.

Z32 Airlines thanks for the info, it is greatly appreciated :) But I don't think I made it clear enough in all the waffle of my first post - I didn't actually get a ticket. But still I will keep your advice in mind if I do get an attempted ticket in future. Thanks again!

Nurries Jim, I mean don't get me wrong, if I have been in the wrong I cop it sweet, but when it's wanky would be's making names for themselves on in-accurate info (which is highly illegal and can have them reprimanded) then I say stick it to em... Also if they arent in a vehicle fitted with radar ask them if they would care to prove in front of a court how they are so sure you were speeding (I dont mean if you were doing 160 in a school zone!!) but chances are it will again then be their word vs. yours but take it easy and have fun :-)

Well it had to happen sooner or later. Coming home last night, turned right off Victoria Rd and onto the back streets to get to my house. Unknown to me, an unmarked cop car occupied by 2 female cops was in the oncoming traffic. They didn't like the speed at which I took the corner and so hung a left to follow me. I didn't cut them off or anything, they were miles up. But I like taking that corner pretty fast usually. Nothing dangerous at all, just moderately fast. Nowhere near losing traction, and not revving it or anything.

They followed me and pulled me up several corners later about 10 metres before I got to my driveway, and asked to see my licence. They said I had been pulled up for speeding, and the manner in which I was driving. I said I was never speeding (it's very hard to do on the street I turned onto anyway, it's full of speed humps so why would you bother?) but said I had accelerated quickly up to the 50kph speed limit.

So anyway, I never got a ticket, but I am kinda pissed off that they chose to pull me up at all. I think they couldn't get me for anything because they knew I wasn't really speeding or driving dangerously, they just wanted to see if they could hit me with a trumped up ticket. Since I haven't lost any points on my licence, they would have realised it'd be a waste of time to give me a ticket because I'd contest it and win.

Anyway the point of this post is I don't think I handled the situation properly. I was very cooperative, didn't really question what they were doing other than to ask why I was being pulled up. But aside from that the bitches^h^h^h^h^h^h^h cops were pretty blunt and rude. If they felt that they could have given me a ticket and made it stick I've no doubt they would have done so. I handed over my licence etc and did everything asked without complaining.

What I really want to do next time is discourage cops from pulling this sort of stunt again. It wastes everyone's time and only serves to give the cop/s in question a power trip, and lets them know they got away with it and they'll try it again. Anyone got any advice? Like what can I say to tell them they're being xunts and wasting everyone's time.

Believe me, you handled it correctly. The rude type cops are just waiting for their victim to react. It then justifies their manner. Not sure of the laws regarding unroadworthy vehicles in the state you live in, but here in the west, it only takes a small thing and they can put a sticker on your car, something that they wouldn't normally bother with. So if their victim reacts, then they go looking for that little thing and that can cause so much more time wasting and frustration for you than just being pulled over as you were. Also, they will keep their eyes open for you in the future and if your car stands out at all, it makes it all that much easier for them.

You might think that they beat you, but you actually won, because you didn't fall for their provocation, thereby saving yourself a lot of unnecessary frustration.

You will get the odd cop that will book you for something regardless how you well you conduct yourself, but most will back off when they see that you are being respectful, even if they don't deserve it.

    • Shaft speed would be the same, however it's how long they hold it there for and repeated conditions. FWIW half way down the main straight at SMSP I'm bouncing off 4th with a 8600RPM limiter. That shaft would be spinning at 8600RPM for a few seconds before I need to smash the brakes, by T2 it's getting close to that speed again. Now a drag car/roll race car would see that shaft speed for a 1 to 2 secs then they would coast, hit the brakes and that's it.
    • With same diff ratio, tyre diameter and road speed, the tailshaft rpm is the same regardless of the gearbag's ratio. Given that very quick drag cars are probably doing similar road speeds to the fastest circuit cars (circa 300 km/h), and there will be many of either category that can't go that fast and so you'd have inummerable matchups between drag and circuit car speeds at smaller numbers, and given that they are probably using rather similar tyre diameters and probably using similar diff ratios, and...where any of those numbers were different they could quite easily be in opposite directions thus cancelling out.... I think you'd find that there'd be more similarity than difference in tailshaft speed between these two use cases, no?
    • they might see those prop shaft speeds for 1 to 2 secs only
    • A year of slogging through this bearing issue and finally fixed. What a nightmare. The oil pressure increase did not fix the problem. If you would like to read all the details in case you ever run into a similar issue visit my thread on Yellow Bullet. https://www.yellowbullet.com/threads/continuous-rod-bearing-issues.2689569/?post_id=74193031&nested_view=1&sortby=oldest#post-74193031 In the end the rod bearings themselves were the issue. I had switched from ACL (first engine) to King because that was all we could get at the time and I thought nothing of it. Put the ACL's back in after a year of taking the pan off multiple times to change many things. Issue resolved. Can't believe it was just the bearings themselves all along. It has now been about two years since I drove the car on the street or had it at the track. At some point I had installed all solid and spherical bushings in the rear but had never aligned it since it just went on and off the dyno. Alignment was the first thing to do. (Old photo but same concept) Then I took the transmission out and went through it. This was my first gearset install and I've done about 15 since this one and learned a lot and wanted to apply some of these tweaks to mine. The aftermarket shift forks take very well to some modification and I wanted to make that change. Shifts are now super smooth and no having to find the gear. I also recut the 5th and reverse shift sleeves - always wanted to try this and see how well it works. It works very well! No grinds or having to do a second attempt going into reverse and 5th is perfect. Before During After Going back in In rummaging through my spare trans parts box I found the only parts I've ever broke on a stock trans; the 3-4 shift fork - twice!
    • It also depends on gearbox ratio. Those drag cars running 7s passes aren't doing it on an overdrive gear ratio (probably). 1:1 is "fine", the critical RPM for a 50' single driveshaft in chromemoly is 6900rpm.... ....but when you shift into 5th and use 0:73 or 0:8 it all changes. Do you know their rear diff ratio? etc. That's the stuff that matters with regards to it. Whether it actually matters given your use application is also relevent. You may never get into those scenarios, like most ruined GTR's from Western Sydney don't :p
