R33 Thermostat

The thermostat seems to be playing up. Some mornings it takes AGES for the temp guage to move to the normal position. Then, after in the normal position for a while, the temp shoots right up top, drops back down, and so on. But most of the time the car runs perfectly.

Its not the guage because last week it almost overheated (ie small amount of steam came out from under the bonnet. stopped once I lifted the hood tho.)

Theres also plenty of water/coolant in it so that rules out any leaks.

First of all, does it sound like the thermostat? Secondly, anyone know where to get one from (please say its the same as the RB30!)?

Likely the same - I got one for my RB20 from the local Holden dealer - a VL Turbo one, came in a very nice Nissan box.

i just had mine done but the mechanic did it. Charged me about $40.
