Regulator thing on fuel pump

Hey all, i'm putting a new fuel pump into my r32, my question relates to the thing that looks like a fuel pressure regulator that sits in the tank with the pump.

My car already had a Bosch 044 installed and this regulator thing was missing, i'm putting in a Walbro, what does this regulator do, and does it matter that i haven't got one???

Car never had any problems with the way it was setup with the 044

Thanks in advance.

Ok had abit more time while at work lol, think i answered my own question; it is just there to keep fuel in the line so that car starts quicker..........car never had a problem without it so it will be fine............

Please chime in to correct me if i'm wrong.
