Skyline r33 fuel injectors guidance

Hi guys my car fuel consumption is so high it's doing 250 per tank 55 litres means 20 litres per 100 km . So had oil nd filters changed mechanic said spark plugs r ok .

so now I am thinking to replace its fuel injectors. Currently looking on eBay but confused which ones are good for me. 750 cc nd 550 cc company brand my4 . Also can someone tell me do I have to change other things to replace the injectors on my car . What's the factory injectors info like (what cc or brand ) etc . Can I use the same coil pack for new injectors as it's already on the car I mean factory coil pack or I have to change coil packs too according to new injectors? Thanks guys hope to get some good information cheers

There are a number of things I'd check before replacing injectors dude:

  • Oxygen Sensor
  • Intake/Filter - check for blockages
  • Temp Sensor
  • AFM - might need a clean
  • Thermostat
  • Vacuum leaks

All of these things are far cheaper and easier to address than injectors. Have you done the basics? Low tyre pressure combined with old/thick oil can actually affect fuel consumption pretty dramatically. Are you running good, 98RON fuel?

Maybe try a reputable fuel system/injector cleaner too.

You can't really change the injectors with the stock ecu. You could get them cleaned and tested. Did the mechanic actually pull out a spark plug to have a look? By the time you have gone that far one would normally change the plugs anyway. If you look in the DIY section you will find a guide to changing the plugs. get new ones gapped down to 0.8mm. Give the coils a good clean and if you see any burn marks where they have been shorting you should ideally replace them with OEM or Splitfires (or at least spray or wrap them with insulating tape).

If you can go through the list in the previous post. Dirty air filter is a top suspect. There is a DIY somewhere on how to clean AFM. If you want to know how to do something Google the question first and you will usually find the answer. If you don't usually do your own work get a few tools and start now or your Skyline will keep you poor!!

This is a great list!

Before doing anything related to the injectors check all these things above first. Also put in new spark plugs, new fuel filter and new oil. After doing all the things listed above start writing a log and the come back with those results and we can help further. Have fun!

Hi guys it's temp needle never goes up it always few minutes to come normal level so it's can't be temp sensor or thermostat. Um just gonna change its air pod which not much $$$$ and will clean AFM thanks. But whenever I start cold engine like next morning it's turn up but after couple of rounds it's goes off . But day time it's alright just 1 round nd runs smooth. Any idea why ?

There are two temperature sensors, one for the dashboard gauge and one for the computer to operate the fueling tables, so yes it still could be the cause of your issue.

O2 sensor

Computer Temp sensor

and bad/ stuck thermostat.

They are your most likely culprits.

Thermostat is a likely culprit. I'd say change it either way.

This is incorrect, as missleman said there it 2 senders. If the sender for the ECU has died it will be reporting full cold temp and as such the ECU will compensate by adding lots of extra fuel as it thinks it is in very cold conditions. The temp sensors are on the inlet manifold near the top radiator hose. The dash one is the single pin and the ECU one is the two pin plug.

Thanks for your advice guys

I clean the AFM

had look on oxygen sensor it looks ok

spark plugs on the way to be replaced

had look on temp sensor not sure they working properly but looks ok too

but I can tell yah my car has bad starting in the morning. Daytime it's ok but morning time it takes 2 push or I have to accelerate to help engine turn up . I am really confused if it's temp problem then it shouldn't have starting problem. Looking to hear you again please

At this stage I would stay patient until your spark plugs arrive. Put them in and see if that fixes your issue, as it may well be them.

After that, I would start by replacing the O2 sensor, temp sensor (2 pin) and thermostat. Sensors can be got for around $40ea and the Thermostat around $50.

We've given you the advice mate, just have to follow it :1310_thumbsup_tone1:

Hi guys um back with same issue I have replaced spark plugs nd splitfire coil packs but car still sucking the fuel same way nd in the cold morning still has same bad starting engine just stall sometimes it seems like motor has breathing difficulties but not sure what it is any suggestions please. It's r33 by the way um posting pics very soon it's got front facing plenum, front mount inter cooler apart from that it's a stock car. Sucking fuel more than 20 litres per 100 km don't know why

    • I swear at my GKTech ones every time I have to take them apart and replace a spherical. But I wouldn't swap them for anything else. They absolutely slay every other option, at least in terms of how they actually work. You sure you don't want to live with bearings? I mean, they don't have "ball bearings". They are rod ends and sphericals throughout. Tough as nuts, even though I have found more than one way to wear them out.
    • From when I was looking at getting the 86 engineered for the turbo, the joint said to put in a few euro 5 or 6 cats, then tune the car on a nice clean E85 tune When I was looking at a turbo for the MX5, it was basically the same thing, a couple of cats and a nice clean tune Although, it will depend on the year of the Jeep IRT emmisions standards required, and what mods are done, especially if it has a newer engine installed that requires a higher Euro
    • Yeah - but it's not actually that easy. There are limits for HC, CO, NOx and particulates. Particulates shouldn't be a concern in any petrol engine unless trying to comply to the very latest Euro standard. But getting a tune right so that all the others stay within limits AT THE SAME TIME is not a trivial exercise. You couldn't possibly get it right by just guessing at the tuner's dyno, unless he had a 4 gas analyser up the pipe, which is not often the case these days. It used to be. Every decent shop that did "tune ups" (as opposed to tuning) would have a 4 gas analsyer. Perhaps there's still quite a few of them around these days. But most "tuners" are only watching O2 and power readings.
    • Slight segway but the most expensive part of the whole thing which I would have thought would only be required for an engine size/type swap, not a VIV test, is emissions testing.  That's when you get into the big bucks.  I can't remember the exact price now but I got quotes for the GT-R based on swapping to RB30 (not that anyone bothers doing it legally anymore...) and it was around $4500 just for that alone.  The guy that does them manipulates the tune on the vehicle to make sure it passes.  The cheaper option is to book into Kangan Batman Tafe (I think that's where it was) and hire their tester.  Allegedly you're not allowed in there with the car though so not in a position to tweak anything to make sure the vehicle passes.  I'm sure in this day and age of ultra tuneable ECU's you could get the tuner to program a special efficiency (clean) tune that emits the lowest amount of particulates possible that would pass the test.  It might only make 50kW's but as long as it passed who cares!
    • I'm sure he has left signs, or, he is looking down, laughing That's my cunning plan for when I leave, lots of half finished projects, with no rhyme or reason of where I was actually up to, just to keep everyone on their toes
