Sick of killing stock injectors for NO GOOD REASON. Details inside and please recommend a drop in replacement that wont break.

Recommended Posts

I have a Early build 1993 R33 Skylline GTS-T.

It is NOW my understanding that there's something different about these early S1 stock injectors that makes them extremely sensitive to modern fuels or additives especially if ethanol is involved in any way. Something about the potting compound used. Makes them ELECTRICALLY fail

I am on my 3RD set and sick of it! They are all perfectly spotless clean but get out of range resistance leading to infinite!

So here's the story

A few times Ive had e10 in my tank either cos my dad filled up and ive told him not to, or I've had to and mixed it with 98. The car ran great on it. It was a rare occurrence.

Now it seems its not the e10 that killed them but rather an addtitive. As a preventative measure, after I STOPPED using ethanol, I added Nulons "e85 performance fuel treatment". A few days later the car developed a miss that got worse and worse until it barely ran and I diagnosed and replaced all 6 injectors with a used pair of stock r33 inejctors.

Car ran great, for a few more weeks until AGIAN it started acting up. SAME thing.

I got a tested and working set of stock injectors. Drained the tank and refilled with 98. Car ran great for 10 months.

Never connecting the e85 fuel treatment to the problem, i added what I had left of it to a quarter tank of petrol. 2 hours later (which was yesterday). THE SAME problem.

The culprit seems to be the "Nulon E85 performance fuel treatment."

https://www.nulon.com.au/products/Fuel_Treatments/E85_Performance_Fuel_Treatment

I drained the tank refilled and the car still barely runs.

I need to replace my injectors AGAIN.

I dont want to pay for a custom ECU and tune, so are there any updated modern injectors that are not as sensitive that are plug and play in a stock R33?

Can I use S2 injectors in an S1?

Pretty sure you didn't read the OP.

Not running ethanol anymore. It only had very little anyway. Its a stock car with minor upgrades like intercooler coil packs, higher boost etc.

I need to know if any modern injectors that are also 370cc will fit the car, or if S2 injectors will work in an early S1. Because stock S1 injectors have been complete trash to me not paying for another set.

I honestly thought you were joking.

Stop using e85 treatment. Look at the msds, there is a 40% makup of additive that is not used in straight petrol treatment.

Stop using e10.

Standard side fed injectors are jecs. Other jecs 370cc may work with your rail etc. s15 ones work for reference etc.

I thought the obvious answer was don't put the treatment in ever again and you'll never have the issue again

Most Nissan turbos use those 370cc side feed injectors.

AFAIK s1/s2 fuel injectors are interchangeable.

SR20 turbo motors use same injectors, with the exclusion of the jap s15 motor that has 440cc ones, or 380cc if you believe the hype/run 4 bar base pressure.

TBH i haven't done enough reading into this fault you refer to about the injectors being lower quality, nor heard of it before.

Im pretty sure anyone who touches an ethanol blend on these cars, has changed injectors.

if you serious about hating the injectors, perhaps look at replcing them with a newer one....i doubt your going to find any stock sized ones tho.

places like detcaworks do the 550 cc bolt in replacements

but obviously you would need a tune.

Guys you are making this seem more simple than it is...First of all ive stopped using ethanol.

As for the obvious answer being to stop using the treatment it wasnt so obvious.

The first injectors i thought died due to the ethanol use or old age. But it was likely due to the additive.

The second set died due to using the same fuel in the tank with the treatment in WHICH I HAD NO IDEA CAUSED PROBLEMS

-The 3rd set just died a few hours after adding the treatment.

IT was only yesterday i suspected the additive. after the 3rd set died.

I am obviously never going yo use it again but i think its important to note

NOWHERE DOES IT SAY THE NULON e85 treatment not suitable for unleaded fuel!

It also says it cleans and protects injectors valves cylinder walls etc.

And im still 3 injectors down.and need a 4th set. I dont want to put in another stock set!

Why would you be using e85 additive stuff if your not running e85?
I'm sure there was an article/ test done a while back that none of those additive things gave any benefit

Kiwirs4t. Its the injectors fault because they are obviously over sensitive. I find it difficult to beleive a newer car will have such problems with an off the shelf additive.

Uwish. Because i had had ethanol in there on the odd occasion, I wanted to protect it from any corossion or water..I was being cautious but as you can see it did harm instead of good.

U guys seem to be missing the point if its designed to help with e85 it should help with any ammount of ethanol. Lucas oil have an additive in America thats similar to the nulon stuff but with with e10 e15 e85 etc. It doesnt matter...

Not to mention it says it does a lot of other things as well.

How about install modern injectors, with stainless bodies. Then install a Nistune with a Z32 AFM.

Will probably be more time/cost effective for your issues and also youll have head room for the future once you drop in a bigger turbo :)

Everyone wins.

You should contact that company and ask them to replace injectors for you.

Absolutely Nothing wrong with s1 injectors! If your not chasing bigger power stick with them and get them professionally cleaned and tested...problem solved! And as others have said, never put in e10 or e85...even e85 additives. Ive only ever run 98 in my s1 and never had dramas with injectors. Just throwing it out there but If it keeps happening it may have also affected your fuel pump.

WMDC35, They are grey on mime not pink.

Nizmo man, no chance they would admit it was their product that caused it.

TY 1, they are not dirty. They were spotless when i took them out. Even opened them up..Spotless. As I said they failed electrically.

    • They see me rollin' they hatin'....... Took me most of the day to make the necessary mods to the mounts to make them fit the car.  Fortunately I was able to just use the mounts that came with the rotisserie. The rear ones are really secure, the front I feel i might reinforce a bit more as it doesn't seem like enough attachment to the vehicle. I'm sure it's fine but better to be safe than (extremely...) sorry.  I drilled and tapped thread into additional M12 holes to each car mount where it attaches to the rotisserie as an extra fail-safe. Without them the side to side movement is just restricted by the allen head pinch bolts, nothing actually goes though the beam. Does now! I still need to adjust the rotisserie to get the car centred in terms of centre of gravity. If it's too high or too low relative to the rotational centre line of the car, it will be like a turtle and roll onto its back or as it currently sits, I dont think I'd be able to rotate it as it sits as it needs to lift the whole car up as it rotates. Ain't happening... I'm going to be nervous as hell the first time I go to spin it on its side...
    • Oh yes done this when the window started flopping around.  Turns out the guides that run along the rail chanel had crumbed way. Took off the door card and pulled out the window mech, then the window, which you have to pull out through the top. As said unbolt the guide rail and don't spend 30 minutes getting frustrated trying to find a way to slide it out upwards cause that don't frigging work. Drop it down and out through the door hole. All I did to repair it was slice some 10mm clear plastic tube, vertically, then screw it to the guide rail both sides. This tubing rolls inward on both sides and leaves a gap wide enough to hold the window. To finish all I did was lube the plastic tube with olive oil and Bob's your uncle . . . well if he has the operation he can be your Aunt ! !  10 bucks in plastic tube and another 5 minute job done again . . . . YEH BULLSH#T ! My love for Skylines knows no bounds !
    • So was there a solution to this problem? I’m having this issue now.
    • not expensive, just irreplaceable if you don't go sub 60 at wakie in that thing people will start talking
    • I haven't replaced that, but I have had the doors apart on the r32 a couple of times The door skin will be held on by a combination of clips and bolts, just take it slowly and make sure all the sneaky hidden bolts are out Once the skin is off you should be able to pop that piece off pretty easily, looks like there are only 2 bolts holding it on
