Just wondering whether anyone new what the law is regarding bent number plates? I own an R33 GTS-T and have personalised plates, although the plates had to be slightly bent on either side to fit, I have now scored three $240.00 fines for having bent plates that I didn't even know were illegal! I work for Qld Transport and have never heard of such a Sh*t law in my life....

Does anyone know if this is right or whether I am just an unlucky b*tch!!!

i have a 33 gtst and my plates fitted fine without any tampering....

r32s and silvias have to have their plates bent, however you can buy usa style numberplates which will fit on a s13 and r32 fine, all that needs is for the mounting holes to be drilled in the top to suit.

yes technicly that is also tampering with the plate, however you wont have bent your plate, cut your plate, or eaten dinner off your plate, which should mean you wont get a fine

USA rear and USA Slim front. Back looks like it was made for a skyline but the front still don't fit the cutout in the bar.

Mine is mounted above the cutout to not obstruct the fmic.

Do you think I would get a defect for mine where some Bozo rolled back into me today and fuxxored the front plate? Because it is bent to buggery.

He will be paying for replacement plates. Damn lucky his towbar wasn't 4" lower or he would be up for an intercooler.

  • 2 weeks later...

Number plates like currency is government property and although we pay a fee to "rent" this property tampering eg " cutting bending or making holes" may result in big fines .

Did you know Its illegal to drill a hole in a 10-cent piece if you are caught doing it you will be slapped with a fine:)

It is worth going to court with good clear photos and pleading leniency.....it may be technically illegal, but the primary thing with plates is that they are clearly visible from in front of the car at 25meters and at an angle of 45 degrees each side. these other things are nit picking and should not bring such a punitive fine. Many magistrates may well agree with you

I bent my front number plate on my wifes old r31 cause the damned thing took up too much space in the air dam.

I was questioned about it a few times but just said it was in a car acident and the pannel shop didnt fix it..

Police never said anything about it after that.

It doesn't hurt to tell little white lies occasionally.
