Was speaking to a guy today who said that he used to do alot of work on turbos about 10-15 years ago.

He told me that he made a device that would keep oil flowing through the turbo for about a minute after the engine was shut off... cant remember exactly how he explained it but basicly he had a seperate cannister with a small amount of oil in it, which when the engine was shut off, a valve would open and allow this cold oil to flow through...

anyone heard of anything like this? or is this dude talkin crap?

It could be done, but just wondering if it would help much since when the engine is on the turbo is spinning at a specific rate and while the engine is on all the oil is flowing through the bearings etc while they are moving etc, i dont think letting oil pass through the turbo while its not spinning would be so effective. I myself dont use a turbo timer just for the fact that 5-10min before i enter my driveway i take it easy and let things cool down, and then give it 20 sec to get out of the car etc then shut it off. My 2 Cents.

This sounds similar to a system that Subaru use in the B4 engines to cool the turbo down properly.

Just use a turbo timer and make sure it's wired to the handbrake so when the handbrake is disengaged it'll shut the car off immediately
