RB25DET Greddy Copy Front Facing plenum pipe work

I know there is a DIY thread about this but the pictures no longer seem to be there, I just had a few questions on installing a "Freddy" manifold onto my S2 RB25DET which is completely factory otherwise.

So my questions are: Can I connect the turbo water feed coming around the back of the block (A) onto the Tee coming out beside the thermostat spout (A) or is (B) better to use?

Can I just block off that rear Tee (B) with a bolt clamped into a short hose otherwise?

Does the other pipe coming out of the AAC valve (C)  go into a bung welded into the boost piping before the throttle body? And does the rest of the piping for the idle valve look correct?

Is it true that if I'm putting this engine into an R32 Sedan, that I'll need to change my clutch master cylinder to the shorter R33 master cylinder to clear the new manifold?

Cheers for any help

The appropriate response to your post is, why are you installing a forward facing plenum on a stock car?

There are plenty of cars running in excess of 300rwkw with a standard manifold. This exercise is pointless and a lot of work for basically no gain?

Edit: credit for the detailed and well-worded post.

Yep definitely not expecting any gains from this I just wanted to tidy things up, make spark plugs more accessible etc on the engine while its still out of the car and on a cradle.  I'm swapping this into a RB30E powered r32 so I'll be adding a fmic, alloy radiator and fans so I want to plan out the best route to run the boost piping and where to hole-saw. I'm retaining the stock throttle body using an adapter so It'll be sitting even further forward.

Once I get her running and legal, then I can continue saving up to chase bigger numbers by doing hotside and injectors with it being ready to take topfeed injectors with this manifold.

Can confirm no power gains. And need to change clutch master. Also id advise getting the throttle body to suit rather than the adapter as if your keeping the battery in the stock position you need all the room you can get for the cold side pipe

Thanks for the replies! Is the cold start pipe where I want to weld a port on to the intercooler pipe so that I can run a tube to that port coming from where I have labeled "C" on my picture of the AAC valve?

Will the clutch master still be a problem even though I've installed the manifold with the engine out of the car? Ill start hunting down an R33 clutch master by the sounds of it.

I was planning on relocating battery to the boot to give some flexibility on intercooler piping location and maybe have some room for a catch can or something like that.

    • Absolutely this. Yes, except not vacuum hose. Something oil/fuel safe is a better idea.
    • Like a Stagea, but not as cool! Hope you have enough garage space for this, or is something going to leave to make way for it?
    • The new project has arrived. I have wanted one of these for such a long time, well before that meathead Clarkson drove one in Africa. I really wanted an E34 but I have some medical issues that mean I *really* can't bump my head and the lack of airbags in the E34 made it just too big of a risk.  I don't know why I've always liked these older touring BMW's to be honest, but man I love this car. She's been pretty well maintained for her 243k's with what appears to be only a single oil leak at the oil filter housing gasket. It has a bunch of updates including later model bumper and headlights, 7 series billion-way adjustable seats and it came with a few spares and another set of wheels with legal tyres. I got a unregistered car permit from the RTA and drove it back from Canberra on Saturday.                   First cab off the rank is cleaning it up for blue slip. I dont know how picky they'll be but I figured I'd clean the headlights, fix the oil filter housing gasket, replace the speed sensors (throwing errors) and swap the OE wheels (the M Sport wheels have a big chunk out of one of the tyres.) I also need to replace all 6 gas struts - 2 for bonnet, 2 for hatch and 2 for hatch glass. The car tries to eat me whenever i open any of these. My plan for this car; Ultimately, this is a budget car. I can't afford to throw lots at it and its because I have another car that I got this, if something breaks its no big deal. I will just maintain and repair it really. But eventually I want to do a manual conversion. It actually looks pretty straight forward for E39's and the trickiest part will be sourcing the parts.  I do need to replace some suspension arms or bushes because wow, she's a floaty old girl. She's also fantastically slow. Like really, really slow. When pulling back out on to the freeway on Sat after a quick pull over I needed to wait until no cars were visible before going.  Oh, and the guy I bought it from had a gorgeous R31 GTS-X in the garage.
    • Do you have a picture? I assume it is a breather for gearbox oil as it expands, it should have a vacuum line run nice and high in the engine bay (R32 GTR has it on a top bellhousing bolt)
    • Hi all, I am putting an r33 gtst gearbox into a VL and have noticed what looks like a vacuum barb on the box (on top in the middle). Suspecting that it's a vacuum line but I'd like to double check, if someone could confirm the function of that would be great. Cheers in advance.
