I currently have an N1 oil pump, but understand that they can be unreliable in an RB26DETT.

Are the Tomie Oil Pumps still the way to go for an RB26DETT as per previous threads?

The engine is out. Should I upgrade?

Yes 100% you should upgrade, Tomie or Nitto. At a minimum you can put Billet gears in the N1 pump. If you have an early model crank you will also need a crank collar

Some people run N1 pumps with no problems. There were a dodgy batch of knockoffs around for a while. Maybe as above get some billet gears and make sure you loctite the screws when you put it together.

Tomei would be great but they are $$$

Bigger hi-volume pump should be matched with a larger capacity sump if budget allows, a tomei/nitto pump will be capable of higher rpm and thus will be able to move a higher volume of oil.  Larger returns and crankcase venting also good 'while you're here' mods.
