Obviously you won't be using the "performance shop" that sold you the car. Can't suggest a shop in Adelaide but would say Hypergear will give you better bang for buck than GCG.

No, I won't be using them. Im in for Sydney for the record.

Do NOT go the G2. Waste of time and money.

Get the G3. I've got it, responsiveness is still great with minimal mods and you've got a higher boost limit.

I was leaning towards that, that's good to know. I was planning on giving them a call tommorow to pick their brains.

I don't have the funds to do everything at once so I was thinking of doing the turbo first incase this noisy stock one detonates and causes more problems. Is there any potential issues running something like a g3 on a stock side mount and ecu for a while?

You'll be tempted to up the boost, but if you can resist that temptation then no, no issue.

The problem you will have is that the G3 comes with an 18psi spring. Additionally, if you go the route I did and ask for an OEM spring, you'll have problems with boost control later and need an aftermarket wastegate (which is what I did).

So, you have 2 options here:

1. Get the G3 now and ask for an OEM spring. This gives you reliability for the moment, but means you'll need $100-$150 for an aftermarket wastegate later.

2. Wait until you have the other supporting mods, then get the G3 with the 18psi spring.

If I was you, I'd wait. I suggest reading my build thread (linked in sig) about why you should do things right and be patient. It's worth it in the end mate.

Im going to sneak her into work late saturday /sunday and stick her on a hoist and go to town with a mate that knows a bit more than me. Just noticed shes loosing coolant aswell (out the bottom thank god) So probably got a lot of fixes before i even start to think of mods. Given how shit this car has turned out to be i might make a new thread under "restorations" lol and document it as i go along if anybody would be interested.

Yeah mate, I'm sure lots of people would be interested in a thread following what you're doing.

100% - fix your problems first. I'm sure I don't have to tell you that modifications, especially for power, just put more stress on your vehicle, so it needs to be in tip-top shape first before planning anything.

Whenever I buy a car, I ensure I go through everything I can from tip to tale. If it has an unknown service history (like this one sounds) I'd be considering a major service including all belts, water pump, etc before considering any mods.

Lots of work and lots of love required, but it'll be worth it in the end!

Time will tell. Just found out I can't use the hoist at work due to insurance stuff

Il get under her tommorow as best as I can with a scissor jack on the street to change oil and plugs and find the source of this coolant leak.  If I find anymore dodgy shit I'm tempted to sell it and buy a better example. Fingers crossed it doesn't come to that.

    • They see me rollin' they hatin'....... Took me most of the day to make the necessary mods to the mounts to make them fit the car.  Fortunately I was able to just use the mounts that came with the rotisserie. The rear ones are really secure, the front I feel i might reinforce a bit more as it doesn't seem like enough attachment to the vehicle. I'm sure it's fine but better to be safe than (extremely...) sorry.  I drilled and tapped thread into additional M12 holes to each car mount where it attaches to the rotisserie as an extra fail-safe. Without them the side to side movement is just restricted by the allen head pinch bolts, nothing actually goes though the beam. Does now! I still need to adjust the rotisserie to get the car centred in terms of centre of gravity. If it's too high or too low relative to the rotational centre line of the car, it will be like a turtle and roll onto its back or as it currently sits, I dont think I'd be able to rotate it as it sits as it needs to lift the whole car up as it rotates. Ain't happening... I'm going to be nervous as hell the first time I go to spin it on its side...
    • Oh yes done this when the window started flopping around.  Turns out the guides that run along the rail chanel had crumbed way. Took off the door card and pulled out the window mech, then the window, which you have to pull out through the top. As said unbolt the guide rail and don't spend 30 minutes getting frustrated trying to find a way to slide it out upwards cause that don't frigging work. Drop it down and out through the door hole. All I did to repair it was slice some 10mm clear plastic tube, vertically, then screw it to the guide rail both sides. This tubing rolls inward on both sides and leaves a gap wide enough to hold the window. To finish all I did was lube the plastic tube with olive oil and Bob's your uncle . . . well if he has the operation he can be your Aunt ! !  10 bucks in plastic tube and another 5 minute job done again . . . . YEH BULLSH#T ! My love for Skylines knows no bounds !
    • So was there a solution to this problem? I’m having this issue now.
    • not expensive, just irreplaceable if you don't go sub 60 at wakie in that thing people will start talking
    • I haven't replaced that, but I have had the doors apart on the r32 a couple of times The door skin will be held on by a combination of clips and bolts, just take it slowly and make sure all the sneaky hidden bolts are out Once the skin is off you should be able to pop that piece off pretty easily, looks like there are only 2 bolts holding it on
