another V35 CVT story

Not sure if I should start my post by 'Hi' or 'Help'

Let's try Hi...

Hi every one, I have a 2003 v35 350GT8, not rolling at the minute. The transmission 'disengaged' while I was on the freeway and now just refuses to engage at all, forward or reverse. I do get a slight jerk when I try to press the accelerator, but that's about it.

I'm looking at 2 options, bite the bullet and get whatever I can get for it in the current state, or do a trans swap.

I guess my questions now would be:

- If I decide to sell it as is, what sort of price do you think I could hope for?

-If I go with the trans swap, what would be involved, how much would that cost and do you guys know anybody on the central coast NSW that could do this?

Thanks guys,

bebetaz

I dont have any info for you, but I will watch this topic as im in a similar position in the whole "is it worth doing a Trans Swap over just selling it". My only difference might be that Im so sicking-ly in love with my car still, so I would do anything I could affordably to keep it for a long long time. I could get a straight answer out of the few Auto shops I had contacted, so lets hope you get the info you need.

Cheers

I don't have much info either, but a mate (a few years ago now) bought a v35 with a shagged cvt gearbox and successfully installed a 5 speed auto out of a 350z.

But it wasnt without drama. He is an electrical engineer, and had a decent auto electrician helping out. Alot of effort, but ended up with a pretty good car for the money/time invested.

  • 2 weeks later...

you could sell it... just for not much money.

these V35 GT-8's sound like a curse that just gets passed onto to the next unsuspecting victim.

I just had a quick look on Yahoo Auctions and no V35 or Y34 CVT's for sale (i have seen some on there before).

    • Hi all   what short shifter do you use on your skykine r34?   my synchronous does have a problem and i was getting huge delay and grinding sound between 2nd and 3rd, did put shockproof red heavy stuff and it is great now/ no issues   would in your view short shifter screw this up?   people seems to suggest/ use cube short shifter and there is standard and premium. Seen review of premium as much better and less play. Thoughts?
    • Yeah, there's a bit of a density and friability difference between pebbles and any of those other things. Silicone will definitely float in oil and so will be mobile enough to move around. Although, again, if it is upstream of the filter it really shouldn't go any further. I would only ever worry about silicone when it is in places downstream of the filter. Upstream of the pickup is a whole 'nother matter. We've all seen what that does. I have seen the most abominable crap settled out in industrial gearboxes, trunnion lube systems and the like, without any sign that any of it has touched anything in the machine. Just chilling in the bottom, waiting for the inevitable operator error that causes the whole machine to need to be dismantled for repairs.
    • I have seen enough fire and brimstone from TSBs about roloc disks causing spun bearings that foreign object contamination is top of mind for me. For sufficiently large particles you might be right but usually it’s a distribution of debris and some of the larger particles can also break down and shed bits. If local shops report RTV contamination in a turbo is enough to wreck them I’m taking zero chances if I can help it.
