TLDR hard or not hard?

Do you really want another turbo Nissan?

Part of the appeal of a 370 weekender is that it's NA and hopefully less shit to go wrong.

Says the man whoi looks at 435/M4 and the equivalent 5 series cars also...

Yeah OK, wonder if the next Z will get VR30DETT like the Inifniti Red Sport or similar?

Dont need 4 seats, don'texpect I'll do heaps of K's so service not an issue - depreciation will cost way more.

Pipe dream at the moment, need my shed done and the road up to my property sealed at minimum.

It's looking like it is, Nissan did a 370 demo car with one for sema

If going to buy something get a demo or slightly used that was one of the things when I bought this as was a demo but was priced well and got it heaps cheap.

Sshhh you, I've already got 3 turbo'd Nissans and they provide enough headaches.

Got the first layer of paint on the calipers, will let them dry for a day then apply new stickers and clear coat.

Turbo cars that never work, coffee machines

Definitely, pretty spoilt for a good choice of coffee roasters locally.

Spent a good part of the day in the shed getting fiddly jobs done to get the sil80 rolling. Had to sand the brake calipers as wasn't happy with the finish so a good sand and another coat of paint they came up a lot nicer so tomorrow will put on the new stickers and clear coat.

Made good progress welding in the braces. Did a lot of them with the tig but struggled doing a few small ones with the mig. Got 4 left to do on the cradle tomorrow before prep for paint.

Odered the rear knuckle bushes and ball joints as well as organising custom brake lines. Hopefully can keep up this pace.

Doesn't have to be pretty.

Just make it strong and let a flap disc sort the rest ;)

That's it, no one is really going to see underneath the car.

Calipers all finished off with fresh stickers and clear coat. Came up pretty good, not going to be a show car any way.

Finished welding the plates in and prepared the rest of the suspension for a coat of black.

Will let it cure for a day or two then start putting in the bushes and ball joints.

Also had the HQ tuned back in May. Made a massive 176hp ? drives pretty good for what it is, definitely needs the nitrous kit finished off. I had the timing and secondary set up right but needed a different power valve & mod to the squirters.

Any tips to sanding and painting brembos? about to do mine

If you have the time and patience do a heap of smoothing to the casting and a base coat to get rid of all the imperfections. I sandblasted these did a base coat sanded with 400 then 800 and did final colour coat, apply stickers then cleared. I also wax & grease remover between each dry coat. All I used was vht brake paint from a can but if was to do it again would probably 2pac them.

Good luck with it, I'll try and post a link where I got my stickers.

Cheers mate. I only need to do the rears as fronts i purchased freshly powdercoated so i think VHT brake paint will suffice. Thanks for the tips, i hate painting but love the outcome haha.

Rear end is in, all new bushes and gktech arms also cleaned up a spare diff cover and fitted it up. Had one f**k up installing front lca bush and bent the lca, lucky I have a spare but it's on the race car in Brisbane ?

Just need to clean up the threads for the rear sway bar mounts and that will be rear all done. Brake lines get measured first thing Monday so will be rolling Tuesday night. Actually getting keen to drive it. Excuse shitty pics but cbf after working on it all day.

**won't let me upload pics @PranK

    • I think you're really missing the point. The spec is just the minimum spec that the fuel has to meet. The additive packages can, and do, go above that minimum if the fuel brand feels they need/want to. And so you get BP Ultimate or Shell Ultra (or whatever they call it) making promises to clean your engine better than the standard stuff....simply because they do actually put better additive packages in there. They do not waste special sauce on the plebian fuel if they can avoid it. I didn't say "energy density". I just said "density". That's right, the specific gravity (if you want to use a really shit old imperial description for mass per unit volume). The density being higher indicates a number of things, from reduces oxygen content, to increased numbers of double bonds or cyclic components. That then just happens to flow on to the calorific value on a volume basis being correspondingly higher. The calorific value on a mass basis barely changes, because almost all hydrocarbon materials have a very similar CV per kg. But whatever - the end result is that you do get a bit more energy per litre, which helps to offset some of the sting of the massive price bump over 91. I can go you one better than "I used to work at a fuel station". I had uni lecturers who worked at the Pt Stanvac refinery (at the time they were lecturing, as industry specialist lecturers) who were quite candid about the business. And granted, that was 30+ years ago, and you might note that I have stated above that I think the industry has since collected together near the bottom (quite like ISPs, when you think about it). Oh, did I mention that I am quite literally a combustion engineer? I'm designing (well, actually, trying to avoid designing and trying to make the junior engineer do it) a heavy fuel oil firing system for a cement plant in fricking Iraq, this week. Last week it was natural gas fired this-that. The week before it was LPG fired anode furnaces for a copper smelter (well, the burners for them, not the actual furnaces, which are just big dumb steel). I'm kinda all over fuels.
    • Well my freshly rebuilt RB25DET Neo went bang 1000kms in, completely fried big end bearing in cylinder 1 so bad my engine seized. No knocking or oil pressure issue prior to this happening, all happened within less than a second. Had Nitto oil pump, 8L baffled sump, head drain, oil restrictors, the lot put in to prevent me spinning a bearing like i did to need the rebuild. Mechanic that looked after the works has no idea what caused it. Reckoned it may have been bearing clearance wrong in cylinder 1 we have no idea. Machinist who did the work reckoned it was something on the mechanic. Anyway thats between them, i had no part in it, just paid the money Curiosity question, does the oil system on RB’s go sump > oil pump > filter > around engine? If so, if you had a leak on an oil filter relocation plate, say sump > oil pump > filter > LEAK > around engine would this cause a low oil pressure reading if the sensors was before the filter?   TIA
