How much did sponsorship save you do you think?

Maybe a 1000 or so for this event the main sponsor is a multi event thing that will be continual for the rest of the year.

Do you need some? That would be awesome!

Known the business owners for a long time, spend a bit with them over the years and send lots of people their way. I was amazed by the support I've gotten considering everything that's been happening.

For those that do the instagram thing can follow stuff over the weekend at robert_ponystumble

You're famous, spotted your car in the last sprint on Foxtel. Had a bit of a moment while your car was on screen. Commentators even requested a replay of it. Other than that little boo boo, car looked like it was going and handling great?

The foxtel coverage was great, did a slowmo yesterday that was cool. Yep overcooked it over taking a slow car and got on the power but had more grip than I thought.

Weekend wrap........

That was EPIC

Started off Saturday just working up to a comfortable pace and ended up with a 1:31.4.  Lost a bit of brake pedal feel by the end of the 3rd session. Did a bolt check, bleed brakes and scuffed the brake pads at the end of the day. Todays first session car felt good and brakes were so much better did another 1:31.4 but car was breaking down under so pulled the spark plugs, gapped a new set down to. 6mm and drained the rad overflow back into the radiator. Was pretty confident as hadn't pushed hard yet. 5th and last session I knew I had a fair bit left in it so went hard and got a 1:28.936 which left me 2nd outright behind Paul Morris in the CAMARO. Car pulled like a freight train on the straights and brakes were really good.

Car is in one piece but I think may have finally hurt the motor, blowing a bit of smoke and losing oil pressure. Learnt heaps and had so much fun. Will look at the car after Targa Great Barrier Reef next weekend.

A few pics of the weekend

Nice work! 2nd outright is amazing!

Jumped the gun on that, turns out it's 4th ? 2 race drivers and a 500kw R32 gtr got me.

Brakes worked really well. One of the commodore Ute's exploded a set of ebc yellows.

That's still very impressive! Great work also glad the Elig Pads are performing well! They do get s bit squealy when warm but it's that or non working EBC like brake pads lol

You'll probably be getting a few more enquiries about brake pads soon.... People were shocked I only had r33 calipers with good pads and fluid so many people didn't even think about getting at least good fluid before the event ?

Nice!

Yeah, it's a different level of car than what I'm used to.

Was having an epic weekend 5th outright and 1st in class and ended up with a hole in the block after the last stage transiting Saturday afternoon. Beat the r35 on one stage.

The old vh is a weapon and getting a few upgrades.

Going to have a bit of time away from cars...................................

For like a week

A few pics, there's heaps on the cars facenovel car689 and momentgram ttcar689

Haven't checked the logs yet and engine builder will get it and diagnose. But it had seen limiter a bit through the stages and had a fuel problem earlier in the afternoon.

    • I think you're really missing the point. The spec is just the minimum spec that the fuel has to meet. The additive packages can, and do, go above that minimum if the fuel brand feels they need/want to. And so you get BP Ultimate or Shell Ultra (or whatever they call it) making promises to clean your engine better than the standard stuff....simply because they do actually put better additive packages in there. They do not waste special sauce on the plebian fuel if they can avoid it. I didn't say "energy density". I just said "density". That's right, the specific gravity (if you want to use a really shit old imperial description for mass per unit volume). The density being higher indicates a number of things, from reduces oxygen content, to increased numbers of double bonds or cyclic components. That then just happens to flow on to the calorific value on a volume basis being correspondingly higher. The calorific value on a mass basis barely changes, because almost all hydrocarbon materials have a very similar CV per kg. But whatever - the end result is that you do get a bit more energy per litre, which helps to offset some of the sting of the massive price bump over 91. I can go you one better than "I used to work at a fuel station". I had uni lecturers who worked at the Pt Stanvac refinery (at the time they were lecturing, as industry specialist lecturers) who were quite candid about the business. And granted, that was 30+ years ago, and you might note that I have stated above that I think the industry has since collected together near the bottom (quite like ISPs, when you think about it). Oh, did I mention that I am quite literally a combustion engineer? I'm designing (well, actually, trying to avoid designing and trying to make the junior engineer do it) a heavy fuel oil firing system for a cement plant in fricking Iraq, this week. Last week it was natural gas fired this-that. The week before it was LPG fired anode furnaces for a copper smelter (well, the burners for them, not the actual furnaces, which are just big dumb steel). I'm kinda all over fuels.
    • Well my freshly rebuilt RB25DET Neo went bang 1000kms in, completely fried big end bearing in cylinder 1 so bad my engine seized. No knocking or oil pressure issue prior to this happening, all happened within less than a second. Had Nitto oil pump, 8L baffled sump, head drain, oil restrictors, the lot put in to prevent me spinning a bearing like i did to need the rebuild. Mechanic that looked after the works has no idea what caused it. Reckoned it may have been bearing clearance wrong in cylinder 1 we have no idea. Machinist who did the work reckoned it was something on the mechanic. Anyway thats between them, i had no part in it, just paid the money Curiosity question, does the oil system on RB’s go sump > oil pump > filter > around engine? If so, if you had a leak on an oil filter relocation plate, say sump > oil pump > filter > LEAK > around engine would this cause a low oil pressure reading if the sensors was before the filter?   TIA
