Im a bit confused

Why would u say the 8100 is better.

I've recently put in turbolight 4100 for the second time and besides haveing really low oil pressure at idle (which is worrying me a bit) it runs smoothly.

Isn't 8100 a thicker oil?

i'd say whatever is in your budget. I would love to buy all the top oils but in the end i need to eat as well :) lolz i know its worth it but still money is money.

isnt 8100 5w-40w???

Yeah that was a typo on my part :) I can prove this by the bit where I said they were the same thickness when warm.

Edited now.

4100 is a "blend" or synthetic and non-synthetic oils the 8100 oil is a full synthetic oil (which is what it is labeled as, same as the some other oils. refer to mobil & castrol lawsuit) but the ester oils are the real 100% synthetic ones, which you pay the price for.

the 8100 & 4100 models of oil come in 5 litre bottles. I dont know if they sell them in 2 litre varieties which is the case with the full ester oils.

How much oil depends on the car!

Most people use ryco oil filters for a most RB engines i think the number for a ryco unit is 145A. There are heaps of threads around the place with other brands etc.

I wouldn't use a semi-synth on a turbo car. The biggest difference between mineral and synthetic oil is the temperature at which they break down. Synthetics break down at higher temps and so last longer in cars which run hotter combustion chambers such as turbo cars. You can still use a good quality mineral or semi synth oil, but you need to change it sooner.

Ester oils also smell like lollies :)

lol. the first thing i noticed when putting in 300V today was the smell. Car now holds idle oil pressure at 2bar, not 1 at idle and is alot smother on the rev-up and quieter on idle and starts smoother. Changed from a full mineral oil (conoco) which came out black after 3000km.

I am currently using run in oil...

But previously used Motul 4100 turbolight, holds 2 bar oil pressure at idle easily (4 bar at cold start up)

I have been recommended to use the 4100 as it is a semi-synthetic for the rings I am running. I have also been told that for daily driving this is appropriate however track days would require an oil suited for higher temps or install a oil cooler...
