aftermarket coolant temp gauge wiring question

Hello, so i have my aftermarket coolant gauge wired to an sensor in the upper hose, the 2 wires can be seen going into the sensor, but I want  to use the existing port that is for the stock coolant gauge. The problem is there are 2 wires going to the sensor i have now in the upper hose, but only 1 going into the stock location where i want to wire my aftermarket gauge too. What do I have to do to wire it? I dont think the stock sensor is a 1/8th npt size either? (pictures below)

Aaahhhh....take the single wire temp sensor out at your great peril and misfortune.  That one is for the ECU.  The 2 wire runs the dash gauge.

Ohh , I was told the single was for the gauge! Thanks for the clarification

Now I could be wrong, but I would have bet 5 bucks the single wire is the gauge sensor.

Based on this train of thought :

old cars had single wire for gauge, then efi came along and there were 2 sensors. I just assumed single is still for gauge. If I am right I am owed 5 bucks. Ig wrong the bet never officially took place.

Yea I thought it was the single too, that’s what someone else said too... that’s why I’m confused on the wiring

Unplug the single wire connector, and see if the gauge stops working...

Ok, so can I just ground one wire from the new sensor and splice the other one into the old sensor?

Oops.  I never heard about the 5 bux.  So it never happened either way!

I'm not sure as I haven't installed an aftermarket sensor. I guess you could try it. Do you have a separate temp gauge (in case the stocker ones dies)?
