ok

pulled my belt cover and cas off today to inspect timing belt.

I marked the position of the cas before i removed it but when i put it back together and turned it over it wouldnt start. I fiddled with the cas again, checked for any loose connections and tried to start it again.

This time it cranked over a bit then stopped as though something was stopping it from turning over. hoping like hell the valves didnt kiss the pistons.

I thought this would only happen if playing with the cam gears? Cam gears and belt wasnt touched, only the cas.

hoping someone can help me cause the cars sittin out next to the road, dont want to leave it there over night!

cheers

have the CAS here with me. can you explain exactly what the key should look like as there is some obvious chewed metal in the CAS shaft. at the end of the shaft there is a half circle of metal, although in the hole where the CAS shaft goes there is just a flat shaft not another half circle? hope that makes sense.

Hmm the key that seats the CAS in only one position might’ve been ground off. Usually done to facilitate the use of other ECU’s ie. EMS where they need to be triggered differently to the stock system.

But usually you can still see a faint section of the keyway left. The hard part its trying to line it up to it’s slot in the head.

I can't figure out why anyone would grind off the key on the CAS. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but surely there's a safer method of getting these ECUs to work? I consider grinding bits off the CAS to be incredibly dodgy!

looks as though the locating pin on the cam has been snapped off. think it was already snapped and when i took the cas off it fell out. Seems to me as though cas will work without the pins as long as its lined up properly on the cam. I REALLY dont want to have to swap the phucken cam:mad: So is there any other way of lining it up or is it just trial and error, which is just about impossible cause you cant look at it while lining it up. or should i just start looking for another cam?

    • Yeah the issue here is that we have a lot of topics, unless we matched on the exact word & phrase we'd get a million topics and the one you want will not likely be in the top 20 or so.
    • Yeah great idea, I have already added R32 Wiring Diagram but we can add as many as we want. 100% ! This has been something I've wanted to do for a while. I thought we could have a way for people to 'suggest' a link be added to the library when they come across something good.  We could kick this along by allowing members (maybe a subset) to tag threads they find to allow us to more easily find/locate/use good content, ie a tag 'for-library' which can then be added to the library and maybe have the tags reviewed and updated to better match the content. This would make it easier then to find the content when not using the library. We can also create pages that have lists of content with specific tags. That would allow us to add a tag and then have it automatically added to a page. We could have a page just for the 'for-library' content that we could then moderate and put wherever.  This excites me, the lack of structure with the amount of content is a little overwhelming.
    • Of course you can. That was a waste. Straight down one oil drain gallery and out the sump hole. Could at least have run the engine a little (obviously with at least minimum oil level on the stick).
    • Oh really? Maybe I'm being silly. I'll get some more shots. I had it higher but found that it went too high after a drive, I never knew this but exhausts can move around a bit when hot (makes sense, just never knew) and when it was higher it would make nice cooking plastic smells. That said, I could put some heat tape on a'la 90's R33 exhausts     Ha, I've spent a lot of my life in castle hill waiting for cars to be done. I think I'd prefer something closer but thanks D.
    • @Duncan Yes, changed filter every time. I don't have the service manual for the car yet (Car was imported and they removed everything when importing). I've been using the oil change threads in the forum as reference.   @Milkmun The second oil change was after ~4 months after the first months and I wasn't sure about reusing engine oil that was opened. The third oil change happened within 3 weeks of the second oil change and I used the previous leftover oil to just "clean up" the system. (Poured it through while the sump plug was open")
