Nistune would be smarter than any piggyback crap.  The NA ECU should be able to do what you need - doesn't matter that it was auto.  Nistune will actually help you to get rid of codes that the ECU will probably throw from not having the auto's TCU on-line.

If you have to buy injectors, don't buy stock DET injectors.  Buy some brand new Bosch injectors (or similar) from Scotty (or similar).

Any big pump will do.  The 255 is reasonable, but there are newer Walbros that better suit E85, for some future proofing.

If you do use Nistune, grab a Z32 AFM, or an R35 blade AFM and fit that instead.  No point hamstringing yourself with the NA RB25 AFM.

And upgrade the brakes.

And fit an LSD.

I run flex fulltime with no issues, i can check knock and sensors are working and is easy for my tuner to play with.

Does the job for $600.

You mean you run E85 full time.

PowerFC can't even cut power when you're above a particular load point, it can't even cut power when you've exceeded a particular engine water temperature.

I think you need to admit now that it is a pretty basic ECU.

Nistune can do full flex blending (PowerFC cannot), Nistune has basic engine protection (PowerFC will grenade your motor), Nistune you can vary your VCT (PowerFC you cannot), Nistune has launch control (PowerFC does not have), Nistune you can fully map the DC for the boost solenoid (PowerFC you cannot).

So tell why the PowerFC is better? Because of its useless hand controller?

Also, the RB25DE Ecu can't be Nistuned, at least it couldn't back in the day when I had one.

May have changed now as I admittedly hadn't looked into it for several years, but I got the impression that the actual ECU was fairly different hardware wise to the GTT one.

If that's the case GTt ones are dime a dozen, everyone going Halaltech or Link or Motec or ECU Master or Syvecs these days.

    • Absolutely this. Yes, except not vacuum hose. Something oil/fuel safe is a better idea.
    • Like a Stagea, but not as cool! Hope you have enough garage space for this, or is something going to leave to make way for it?
    • The new project has arrived. I have wanted one of these for such a long time, well before that meathead Clarkson drove one in Africa. I really wanted an E34 but I have some medical issues that mean I *really* can't bump my head and the lack of airbags in the E34 made it just too big of a risk.  I don't know why I've always liked these older touring BMW's to be honest, but man I love this car. She's been pretty well maintained for her 243k's with what appears to be only a single oil leak at the oil filter housing gasket. It has a bunch of updates including later model bumper and headlights, 7 series billion-way adjustable seats and it came with a few spares and another set of wheels with legal tyres. I got a unregistered car permit from the RTA and drove it back from Canberra on Saturday.                   First cab off the rank is cleaning it up for blue slip. I dont know how picky they'll be but I figured I'd clean the headlights, fix the oil filter housing gasket, replace the speed sensors (throwing errors) and swap the OE wheels (the M Sport wheels have a big chunk out of one of the tyres.) I also need to replace all 6 gas struts - 2 for bonnet, 2 for hatch and 2 for hatch glass. The car tries to eat me whenever i open any of these. My plan for this car; Ultimately, this is a budget car. I can't afford to throw lots at it and its because I have another car that I got this, if something breaks its no big deal. I will just maintain and repair it really. But eventually I want to do a manual conversion. It actually looks pretty straight forward for E39's and the trickiest part will be sourcing the parts.  I do need to replace some suspension arms or bushes because wow, she's a floaty old girl. She's also fantastically slow. Like really, really slow. When pulling back out on to the freeway on Sat after a quick pull over I needed to wait until no cars were visible before going.  Oh, and the guy I bought it from had a gorgeous R31 GTS-X in the garage.
    • Do you have a picture? I assume it is a breather for gearbox oil as it expands, it should have a vacuum line run nice and high in the engine bay (R32 GTR has it on a top bellhousing bolt)
    • Hi all, I am putting an r33 gtst gearbox into a VL and have noticed what looks like a vacuum barb on the box (on top in the middle). Suspecting that it's a vacuum line but I'd like to double check, if someone could confirm the function of that would be great. Cheers in advance.
