I have a 1993 R33 gtst skyline

My passenger side window has stopped working, it goes down but not up

I have bought another switch, didn't work, new motor and relay which also didn't work. Took to auto elec and he reckons its been wired to suit a dodgey switch and can't handle a new switch.

I recently found that the earth wire for my boot fuse box had been rubbing against my subwoofer box and the wires were showing which earthed out my headlights, so could this be the problem causing my windiw issue?

Any ideas on causes apart from this?

And how can i manually wind up my window as its sitting down a bit from having window switch tested and it wouldn't go back up (I've disconnected motor)

I'd get a second opinion on that, doesn't sound right to me.  If your switch works [test with a multimeter] and your motor works like ADMS15 suggests then its not been 'wired to suit a dodgey switch'.

It’s been tested and it worked, I ordered a new one just in case and that worked fine, I put it in the car and it still wouldn’t go up, only down. The motor is fine, relay fine then I don’t know, I’ll try what ADMS15 suggested and see what happens because I can only now put it down to wiring

I was told by first auto electrician that the earth for the “up” part of the switch wasn’t working but it was a good earth going down if that makes sense

Any auto sparkie worth his salt can run a new earth strap.  So I'm concerned...I'd still be getting a second opinion.

I suspect that what was meant is that when the switch is moved to "up" it successfully connects the terminals together (and given that these things switch on the earth side, that means that it provides an earth to the circuit) and that that does not happen on the down side of the switch.

If it were me, I would disassemble this switch and investigate what is not working inside.  I have done this several times with the headlight switch in my car, because they tend to get a bit dirty from arcing as they open and close.  I'd be sure that the window switches would also be dismantlable, and could be cleaned, or new brass strips made (if needed) or even plastic repairs done with epoxy or (appropriate) superglue to make it work.

What about the power window module in the door? I havent seen anyone mention that

They play up sometime. If the motor works (which it does) and you have tried 2 x new switches then i would assume it would be the power window module

Is this the black relay box on the drivers side door?
