well if you need to compromise for a family, why not buy a van?? lol :) i hear they can seat 8 in pure comfort. A nice toyota Tarago lowered to the road with a nice set of 21 inch chromes would certianly turn some heads...

Anyway... the Gt-t wouldnt be as family friendly as an EVO, im not to familiar with chasers nor stageas so i wouldnt know

I was in the same situation as you. I had my next car choice down to an R34 Sedan or a JZX100 Chaser. I read 1000s of pages about both, and in the end I decided to get the Chaser. I feel the engine, looks and resale value (hopefully) are all better on the Chaser.

I'm getting an auto btw. I worked out that if I feel the need for a manual I can convert it. The manuals are so overpriced (or the autos are really underpriced) that you would be able to do a Supra 6 speed conversion on an auto one for about the same money or even less if you're lucky.

Yeah i am faced with exactly the same decision, im pretty keen on the 5 speed manual JZX100 because it came with the R154 box and from what i can gather it is apparently good for 500rwhp which is apparently why the attract such a high price figure.

Have you got any quote's on how much it will cost you landed and complied for the auto? Ive been scanning past jap auctions and from what i can gather the average price for an auto seems to be around 750000-900000 yen, FOB, so thatd be around $20-$23000 landed and complied. The manuals still seem to be fetching around $26-$28000 landed and complied. All around grade 4 from auctions and allowing around $10000 for freight, compliance and new tyre's.

1JZ-GTE VVTi with a CT26, oh baby, im pretty set on the 100, hopefully they'll continue to stay reasonably rare and unique, i dont want a great car like this to become common street wear if you know what i mean, part of the challenge of finding a car that meets all the things i want from it.

Anyways i'll keep everyone posted on when i get one and bring it in in the future, MIC33R if you could PM me any info you get or when you get your car if you could drop me a line, id have a few questions for you, cheers dude.

Steve.

Oh a little side note.. seems some of you guys have the similar question to me.. ie. for me its between stagea series 2 vs chaser However I am having diffficulty in finding information regarding Chasers, may be due to my illiterate in japanese.

Would some of you guys kindly provide some english url to chasers, for me to compare the two cars in detail?

If I was choosing between a Chaser and an AWD turbo Stagea, I would take the Stagea. They're such a bargain too.

EDIT: I'd swear I typed more in this post. I must have clicked send early.

Anyway, the reason I'd choose the Stagea is for the AWD turbo 6 combo - it's a mini GTR. The Chaser does look a hell of a lot better imo though.

i dont want a great car like this to become common street wear if you know what i mean, part of the challenge of finding a car that meets all the things i want from it.

of course it will.. if you want one, so does somebody else :) When compliance becomes available i'd say they would become very popular.. just like the soarer has been.

I was looking into it a bit.. the 1JZ-GTE on either the JZX90 or JZX100 is good for 300rwkw fairly easily with stock internals, stock gearbox, etc. 2nd in strength only 2 the supra engine, and that is a strong engine..

The main problem i had with the Chasers was that parts from o/s would be quite expensive, and of course getting them locally would be very difficult/expensive. Even things like exhaust systems or suspension would be very hard to track down. Either from o/s - big $$ and bugger all chance of getting them local. Turbo kits are hellish expensive for anything 1JZ-GTE, and apparently not meant to be the easiest to install - around $3k at least for something 2nd hand. And as the demand is less the prices are higher on them.

It would be an expensive car to modify, but would be worthwhile to have something slightly different.. Pimped up with nice rims and kits they look horn. Stock they really just look like a cross between Toyota Avalon and Camry (erk!)

PowerFC and things is available for the Chasers now which is a big plus.

Maybe one day when i have a lot of money to throw at a car, it would be a worthwhile one.

I worked out that if I feel the need for a manual I can convert it.

You have seen the price correct for a Toyota manual box ? and finding a supra 5 speed.. $$$$

chaser jzx100 didn't look as nice as skyline, and didn't handle as good as R34.

Ugly(boring) interior/exterior

chaser don't have as much aftermarket parts as skyline.

they have more room, bit more comfortable, and better engine.

yes, i have driven both.

The Chaser has less aftermarket parts then a skyline...which planet are you from?

Yes I’m thinking about getting my self a new family car, I was thinking about a JZX100 Chaser, R34 Sedan, Stagea or an EVO 6 or 7

I’m thinking EVO and the wife is thinking R34 Sedan but the Chaser does look tempting, where is a good place for me to access info on the Chaser?

Chaser for sure, I will hoping to jump into a Chaser next...after the Evo.

Seats, a steering wheel and gear knob, do not an interior make. All the other plastics shout econobox.

LW.

Wow, I never noticed...I see just as much plastic in every other car :)

Sure, would love a set, but they don't necessarily work well with a baby-seat ;)

Edit: What I am getting at is the Evo is too hard-core I think: too many compromises for a family.

LW.

Now your making sense...the Evo is very hardcore, I too wouldn't recommend it as a family car.

I tell you what guys, as soon as my JZX100 gets off the boat i'll take some pictures and you can all decide for yourselves what you think the exterior/interior looks like.

Vindicare: what year were you looking at with those FOB prices? While i was bidding on grade 4-4.5 1997/early1998 models, around 60k kms, the autos were being sold at auction around 1-1.2 million FOB. Manuals were higher again, but not sure of their end price. If you can get a good grade 4 for 750-900k you're onto a winner for sure.
