Hey all,

While talking cars recently somebody has suggested that ABS works only with the OEM ecu, (R34 GTT)
My years reading this forum i have never come accross this idea, although i cant seem to find anything to verify or deny that, it looks like it may be true for standalone options,  I would like to know if it is true for plugins specifically haltec platinum pro.

If its correct and abs is no longer supported then is there anything else that uses the abs wheel sensors? (Launch control?) or are they made redundant.
Is there a separate abs computer that could be removed? I also have removed HICAS and TCC - can i now remove the computers for those?

ABS is its own unit, ECU has nothing to do with it.

ABS/TCS computer talks to the ECU on the Nissan bus. Sends fault codes back and forth.  Damage something in the TCS system (say, the TCS throttle position sensor) and the ECU will raise a DTC.  It is conceivable that the ABS/TCS computer could crack the shits and go into fault.  But the sheer number of R34s running around with aftermarket ECUs would suggest that the junior systems keep working without big daddy still running the show.

There is one thing though......most of these other systems (HICAS, ATESSA, TCS) require the VSS signal from the ECU.  HICAS will certainly shit itself without it.  So I'm sure you have to do something about that.

In S15's what johnny said is true, ABS ECU calculates VSS and sends it to the engine ECU.

Also i believed that ABS simply doesn't work when going to a standalone ECU. I was planning to bin my ABS when i went to Link Extreme however if i can keep the ABS i will.

From what I see/gather the ABS (from S14/15/R33) is standalone and takes all the wheel sensor (RHS LHS front wheels, drivetrain speed) and calculates wheel speed differences and pulses front or rear brakes accordingly.

I've fitted and tuned 2x halaltechs to 2x S15s and they still both retain ABS

Going to bunp this up again instead of making a new thread ;

From what i have gathered the TCS/ABS and HICAS computers need to stay to keep the ABS happy,
But what about the TCS and HICAS fuses in the engine bay?
They are 15A and 20A fuses so i imagine they are for the rack and butterfly and can be removed. (If the computers are being powered from another location)

I am relocating my fusebox so getting rid of them would give me another 2 fuse spots and save some wiring :)
