Hi guys,

I just noticed my R33 GTR front door trims are starting to show its age and shows some rips so it's time for me to do something that I've always wanted to try which is to wrap them in carbon fiber. Has anyone done this and how hard was it? Which time of wrap did you use and how long did it take?

Also, does the wrap come with adhesive or will have I to spray it with adhesive glue?

Any photos would be great!

Sorry but that’s a terrible idea. It looks soo trashy.
Either find second hand replacements or if you are dead set on carbon try finding someone that makes inner door trims

It won't stay stuck to something that moves, like the padded vinyl that the door trims already are.  Will bubble and lift and....look trashy.  More trashy even than when it was fresh.

What you said is 100% spot on. I just spoke one of my friends who does vinyl wrapping on the side and he said the same.

I just came back from a Jap wrecker and bought used replacement trims ended up costing $250 for the pair but you're right better idea as wrapping is probably not an option.

Thanks for your reply - helpful as usual!

You're right mate. I thought about it and felt this would sacrileges to do especially toward a GTR so I ended up going to a local wrecker and buying replacement trims.

I guess for a 25 year old car the trims being worn is a given.

Thanks for your honest opinion.

You can get carbon fibre dipping done. I have done it to the dash on the car. It looks friggin awesome.
The guy is in Ferntree fully and can get his details if you need it. Don't wrap it it will peel over time.

Sounds good. Post up some details and pictures if you can mate I'm sure many people will be interested.

This is the place I did the carbon fibre dipping. emoji106.png

Thanks mate looks interesting.

Would you be kind enough to share a few photos of what you had CF dipped?

Below is a snap a similar item they did.

That isn't the case. The surfaces are dipped and a clear is.dprayed over the top.
They dip wheels and anything that is possible. If wheels can be dipped and driven without flaking so can most surfaces.
Ring this guys and he will tell you of it will work.
People will give opinions on something they dont know much about.

As for the steering wheel, I got this one off eBay. I was originally doing to get the steering done by ultimate auto trim. They do that as well and what every style and design you like.
However I found this on eBay and so I have the original steering wheel for the car. The original steering wheel is immaculate, so I would have been a shame to dedicate it. [emoji41]
Jump onto their website or eBay and it shows what they have done so far.

OK, here's an exercise for you.  Go dip a vinyl glove.  Let it dry.  Put it on.  Scrunch your fingers.  What do you think will happen to the dip?  Really?  What do you think will happen?

Wheels are rigid surfaces.  Door trims are NOT.  They are vinyl backed by polyurethane foam to give them the "soft touch" experience that people want.  If you want the tacky tacky experience of carbon fibre dipped door trims, tou would first have to remake the door trims out of something hard, like ally, or fibreglass.....or carbon fibre.

All this is too hard so I ended up getting second hand door trims from a local wrecker for $300.

I must admit, door trims don't get seen very often so it doesn't matter too much what it looks like, I guess.

    • Meh, At 60 years old, I have been doing dumb stuff for much longer than you mate, I am the true King And unfortunately I cannot be a maroon, as I am not brownish red As for not getting ITB's, the plenum intake will apparently show typical gains across the board and increase induction noise a bit, but, have all over less dort than ITB's Cost difference for the extra ITB dorts was significant though, the total parts for the plenum set up is "around" $2kAUD plus shipping, the ITB's were $4kAUD plus shipping, I was contemplating really hard about paying the extra $2k for all of the dorts, but weirdly, some form of common sense, from listening to the platform experts prevailed  As for the NA mod hate by some, I've had a few boosted cars, with all their inherent issues, I'm now looking at simplicity and legalities for a street car, maybe I'm just getting old, and I'm quite happy to spend some of the kids inheritance, 5kw at a time 🤣 And think of all the money I'll be saving on consumables that something with boost needs, like engines, gearboxes, diffs, clutches,  tilt trays... etc. etc. etc. 🤪
    • Haha.  I wouldn't say I am either but I've definitely been around it plenty.  I'm guessing you know the dial in is basically to make a handicap to level the playing field between racers.  The car with the slower dial in goes first and in theory if they run their dial in time and the faster car also does then they cross the finish time if they also have exactly the same reaction time - if you go faster than the dial in them you lose, but if you are too slow there's a good chance the other person will get to the finish line first. I'm normally supporting other cars but they were all pretty dialled and were egging me on to race as well, here's one of the cars I tune (Starlet) which ran within like 1 hundredth of its dial in through the competition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inEBu-d9Gn4&t=69s
    • Where ever the fuel reg gets it reference is what I use to T into for map reference been a very long time so where it goes to plenum/runners I have no idea but never had issues.
    • What ecu? Same shop every time? Same ambient temperature? If timing is correct then pull plugs and see if lean or rich. Dyno can also read different if they have changed ramp rate or not set tacho/speed properly
    • I've never done dial in's just straight up, whatever that's called. I'm far from a drag (racing ) expert.
