S15GTR
Hey guys, I was looking into doing an rb26 swap with an s15 but wasn’t sure about the legal side of things, I figured this would be the best place to ask. Info would be greatly appreciated! Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/475181-legality-of-an-rb26-swapped-into-an-s15/ Share on other sites
Murray_Calavera
What state are you in? This would be legal in NSW once the car was engineered. GTSBoy
Full engineering required everywhere (in Oz). Will (likely) require brake upgrade and testing at the minimum. Stock ECU or full emissions test also. KiwiRS4T
To save unnecessary problems identify your local engineer and have a talk about your plans so you can be sure everything you do will comply without having to re-do things. Robocop2310
Yep, will require an Engineer’s Certificate and pass roadworthy and they pick on everything from new brakes due to power increase, re-tuning and you might have to pass some power and epa emissions testing. iruvyouskyrine
To save yourself time and hassle just keep it registered with SR. Is it the right thing to do? No. Is it the easiest and most convenient way to do it and you wont be comprehensively insuring it? Absolutely. S15GTR
Thanks For all the feedback guys, I live in vic and I also had another question, due to this being my first engine swap experience, what would be the best place to buy the rb26dett? niZmO_Man
Any reason you need RB26? Or just want it? They have the GT-R tax applied to it. GTSBoy
Yeah....a Neo would be far smarter. A VQ30DET Neo smarter again (except for the gearbox hassles). A VQ37 + turbos would be the smartest. Nah I just want it in the car, I’m open to suggestions on what engine to swap in, I’m relatively new to the s15 scene Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/475181-legality-of-an-rb26-swapped-into-an-s15/#findComment-7888247 Share on other sites
GTSBoy
I'd suggest a VK56, LS2, 26B or a 2JZ, before I'd jump on the 26 bandwagon. niZmO_Man
Those engines are too mainstream, get something a bit more exciting: Hartley V12 (based on the Toyota V12) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/475181-legality-of-an-rb26-swapped-into-an-s15/#findComment-7888293 Share on other sites
Robocop2310
Hell, if it fits get a ford Barra engine. Their quite accessible from local wreckers and cost around $2K mark annd some even come with an existing turbo set up but with the significant increase in power you may have to upgrade brakes and suspension. r32-25t
Why would you want a Barra, according to some people they make less low down torque then an rb26 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/475181-legality-of-an-rb26-swapped-into-an-s15/#findComment-7888433 Share on other sites

Dose Pipe Sutututu
I would put in a RB25 NEO, with VCT and a solid lifters and being already a single turbo motor you'll be silly to put in a RB26. But each to their own, saying I have a RB26 gives people boners. I personally prefer fat torque and less lag + no need to spend days blocking up the secondary oil drains and tidying all the lines not to mention you need to chop the sump as well etc. 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/475181-legality-of-an-rb26-swapped-into-an-s15/#findComment-7888528 Share on other sites
