Hey guys, I'm looking to repaint my rear boot garnish as it's a little worn and am after the correct paint called for my black R33 GTR. The sticker in the engine bay confirms paint code KH3 but when I go to a paint shop they say 3 variances pop up on their system, gloss black, gloss black with some white or engine bay gloss stain. Something like that.

Just wondering if I want the closest match, what which variance would I select? Has anyone with a factory black R33 GTR had any paint mixed?

Many thanks,

Alex

Um....paint matching is the job of the spray painter.  He buys and mixes and tests paint to make sure it matches the adjacent panels.  You don't just spray and pray.

I agree with you mate, but to spray the rear garnish it's easily done so I would rather pay $25 for a bottle of custom spray paint then fork out something like $180 for it to be sprayed by a professional workshop seeing I already have the precise colour code.

The 3 variations of the code are there to accommodate the varying condition of the paint depending on wear, sun exposure etc. The paint place mixing the paint should ask you for a sample like your fuel filler cap to check against. The fact that they didn't leads me to believe you went somewhere like supershit auto. If that's the case you may want to rethink your choice and go to a paint specialist who really knows what they are doing.

Another consideration is whether or not you want 2 pak or acrylic and what sort of finish you are willing to accept. The cheaper $25 cans wont be 2 pak.

Ha ha yep, I did go to SuperShit Auto!

i just bought a can so will give it a shot given the hot weather we’ve been getting here in VIC if all fails will drop the damn thing to a panel shop

Thanjs everyone!

Take the car to Montrose Panels in Lilydale. Ask for John to respray it. He is a gun a matching the paint colour. He did my front and rear bars and matched the paint to perfection. PM me for more details as he may do it on the side.
