Wondering if someone who knows a little more than myself can give me some advise regarding a media reciever for the mrs RAV4. I got her a Sony XAVAX1000 with Apple CarPlay, but am now wondering if this was a bad choice? I’ve enquired about installation, and been advised it will be somewhere between $300-$400. Now I’m wondering have I really just paid for the ‘Apple’ tag being attached to this unit, or is it worth the $400(reduced from $550) paid for it?

Are there better options out there in the same price range, or is this a decent purchase?

If there is something notably better I will return this one and try again as it’s still new in the box.

Any advise/help much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The Sony 1000 is good for the price, I bought both my kids one, one has had one is r33 for a year now and we I just put one in the my other sons supra 3 days ago, they seem to have good sound but they have amps, subs and good speakers,  air play works fine as does the google play, dunno about the fitting costs I've always installed my own audio gear it's not that hard it might be in more modern cars but I'd give a go, they went from mid priced pioneer head units which were about 4 and 8 years old and the sony sounds a lot better, I would put one in my car if I didn't have to spend all my money on their cars!!

    • Very interesting, im not sure how all those complications fit in to running a haltech instead of a stock ecu but I'm starting to think I'm a bit out of my league.
    • I just put 2 and 2 together. This is a Neo converted R32. The Neo ECU (in concert with the R34's AC controller) runs the AC quite differently to how the R32 ECU and AC controller do it. If you just drop it all in, it won't work. There is some tricky wiring required, including changing to the pressure switch that the Neo controllers want to see. I don't know what it is, because mine was done by a guru. It was a year or so after I did that transplant before he worked out what needed to be done.
    • Don't assume the AC relay signal from the ECU is +, some models including Stagea use an earth trigger.
    • Hey good to see you on the forums! Haha Considering this cars past with electronic issues I am leaning towards it being a wiring fault somewhere in the engine bay. When testing the ac relay in the fuse box there was no earth trigger. I am probably going to try "bench test" the compressor by giving it direct ground and power to see if i can hear the ac clutch click otherwise I will be pretty sure I have a dead compressor. If it does work then I will be tracing some wiring it seems.
    • Haha, the big brain move is to buy a second set of headlights to clean up or retrofit. I definitely don't have one sitting in a cupboard that hasn't been touched since it arrived. Just have to ignore the intrusive thoughts that suggest the second set is not quite as good as it could be and to buy a third set that the job would definitely get done with
