Wondering if someone who knows a little more than myself can give me some advise regarding a media reciever for the mrs RAV4. I got her a Sony XAVAX1000 with Apple CarPlay, but am now wondering if this was a bad choice? I’ve enquired about installation, and been advised it will be somewhere between $300-$400. Now I’m wondering have I really just paid for the ‘Apple’ tag being attached to this unit, or is it worth the $400(reduced from $550) paid for it?

Are there better options out there in the same price range, or is this a decent purchase?

If there is something notably better I will return this one and try again as it’s still new in the box.

Any advise/help much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You can get cheaper units (and more expensive ones - yours looks ok) but it sounds like you are more concerned about the cost of installation. It might be cheaper if you had a unit with a RAV4 installation kit. If you can't install it yourself you are better to go round a few shops and ask for an installed price (they supply unit and install it). Or just bite the bullet and pay to get yours installed.

Price is pretty good, remember you are paying Apple for the privilege of using CarPlay.

How old is the Rav4? It may require extra stuff like surrounds, harnesses etc (e.g. hook up steering wheel controls).

I say research installing it yourself then think about tackling it or paying a shop to do it (I'd do it myself).

    • AA000 is for R34 GTT. 11140-05002 is not a part number that exists in Nissan's parts catalog. R33 GTST is 11140-21U00. 11140-05U02 is for the RB26.
    • For something like this, I'd skip just going for the cheapest, I'd find the place with the best experiences people have had, especially for restoration work. Like everything, there is upholsterers, and then there is upholsterers. Some really great upholsterers for automotive restos won't even appear to have an online presence.   My guide would be find some of the old school classic cars that have been fully restored and are immaculate, and ask the people who own them who did the work on their seats
    • Might be tricky matching the seat trim material  If your got the funds you "may" want to get the rear re-trimed as well to match the front
    • How much is it to re-uploster?  Well that's a "how longs a piece of string?" question !  And I answer thusly: "twice half its length! " . . . . . .  Seriously you'll have to chase multiple quotes for that one from different uphlostrerereres !  Ask around, in your area and on the forums, chase reviews and most of all see the finished product in person cause photoshop is a wonderful thing !
