Hi all, recentley got my insurance renewal and it went up by $187 to $1065 and agreed value $18,000, down from $19,000.That's about 21% increase. Was happy with my previous policy and was expecting a CPI increase, but not 21%.

So i called HBF to ask why so much of an increase, considering that I have been with them for 23 months and made no claims, am on 60%ncb and well over 30yo. They said that my area had been re-rated :bs!: . Bollocks, the bloody car is garaged, has a very good alarm/immobiliser system and used only a couple of times a week. Not much of a risk I would have thought and I told them in no uncertain terms that I didn't consider HBF to be too helpful or considerate to their members as they would have us believe. :)

Also mentioned that according to an article on the news a couple of weeks ago, it was stated that car premiums were expected to go down a little because car thefts had gone down quite a bit. That didn't make any difference.Their attitude was totally different to when I first joined them.

Anyway, got a quote from Shannons and they came in at $940 on 65% no claim discount, (didn't think there was any higher than 60%). Not bad I thought.

Just wondering if anyone has been able to get a cheaper price for the same agreed value.

My cousin bought a near new XR6 turbo and is insured for $42,000 with a premium of only $780 from QBE (they wont insure imports). This bollocks about imports attracting higher premiums really pisses me off. It's obviously a scam. I couldn't see parts for an XR6 turbo being cheaper than a Skyline.

Im with QBE for my R32 GTST, so dont tell me they dont do imports :)

Just got my renewal this week, $700 for 12 months comp valued at 14k.

Its dropped $680 in 2 years.... probably due to me getting older and my first accident going off my record (more than 5 years ago). Now to get rid of accident number 2 *waits*

By the way, if you want to get your import insured with QBE, try getting your house and contents covered by them too. They will then do anything to keep the business and thus the imports policy goes out the window.

Also its likley the R33 has been blacklisted like the S13 as a "problem car". Since people have a habit of sticking them into poles.

My brothers 180SX insurance has gone up $400 in 2 years for no reason.

When I asked QBE about my 2 litre Skyline the reply was "That car doesnt exist, you mean 2.5 litre" *sigh* idiots. So im guessing mine was the first on their books.

im with QBE for my R33 GTS.

I was only allowed to be insured by them because i was previously a member with them for my old car. but im not technically allowed to do stuff all mods. i can have like 1. and thats it... its pathetic.

im 19. and the car is insured for 13-14000 for memory. and i have a 20% ncb but im paying about 1900 per year. im HOPING it goes down a bit this year. i mean i havent had an accident, so lets hope.

I never asked about mods. Never had a problem with them paying out on my previous 2 accidents in my Pulsar SSS which had alot of mods. Not planning to do a whole lot to my R32 anyway apart from an intercooler and running an R33 turbo (which looks so similar to a stock one, i doubt an assesor would notice).

it may be like you said about house and contents, in which case they shouldn't say that they don't insure imports or they may have just changed their policy on imports.

I used to have all this crap with RAC hey your lucky at 30 you are only paying 1K, i was quoted $4500 being 24, 55% ncb originally, you can't accuse me of being irrational when i said thats absolutely pathetic and no justification then hung up.

I'm with JustCars now, paying $1300 including mods like stereo, mags, TT, boost control, intercooler, insured for $22K

If it was a standard R33 i'd only pay $1K flat.

well over 30, like over 40

RAC deserve every bit of abuse that could be dished out. Hate that mob. After having contents insurance with them for 4 years and no claims, they decided to reward me with a 54% increase on my policy premium. That was 3 years ago. Didn't renew my policy with them.

I applied online for a quote with Just Cars and Suncorp. Just Cars should come in with a good quote. With only 2 zero point $50 speeding fines almost 5 years ago, 23 months with no claims with HBF, currently 60%ncb, no prangs or claims for over 20 years, car is garaged and only used a couple of times a week, what the f*** more would they want? I would have thought that HBF would have begged to keep my policy with them.

I am with Torque Insurance which is a division of Lumleys. They will only insure drivers over 30 with clean records and do insure imports with or without modifications (as long as you tell them what they are).

Recomended to me by my import broker and been with them for two years. Series II Skyline with some minor mods, insured for $26,000 just under $900.

Speak to Steve Walter who knows his stuff.

Cheers, Al

that's pretty good, is their office in W.A.? Do you have mods to your car?

Yeah they are in WA (Perth CBD) and the number is 9220 8212 and speak to either Steve or Lorraine Walter.

Some minor mods like pod, exhaust, mags plus some others like lowered suspension, strut braces, pedals. They don't mind mods as long as they are aware of them and require alarms / immobilisers (like they all do).

Cheers, Al

They havent changed their policy on imports. What they said to me was very clear "We will not insure imports unless you have existing business with the company"

that must be why some are insured with them and those who don't have any policies with them won't get an import insured, although they didn't ask if I had any current policies with them, just said they don't insure imports. Maybe they are getting out of imports altogether.

Thanx for the info, I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Just Cars came back with an online quote (preliminary) of $794 for $14,000 cover. I was wanting the cover to be around $18,000 so that may not work out with them. They will probably say that's all it's worth. Will see when I speak to them tomorrow.

Thanx for the info Red Sky. Phoned Torque insurance and they quoted $740 for $18,000. That's $200 less than Shannons and $325 less than HBF. Am going with Torque as I don't think that their quote will be bettered. Again, thanx a lot, will have to buy you a CC sometime.

Glad you got a good quote and I could help out.  Their prices do seem pretty good and they know what they are insuring which makes the difference.

yeah, they didn't seem concerned at all that it was a "line". Some make you feel like a criminal because you dare ask for insurance for a skyline.

Good stuff, sometimes its luck of the draw too but $740 full comp wish i could get that i've paid out like $2000 in the last year alone going from one to another.

sometimes I'd gladly pay the $2000 just to be able to turn the clock back 20 years and take my "line" back with me. :)

you guys make me laugh hey..

i guess its humourous cos i work here and know all the ins and outs and how policies are rated and loss ratios and stuff like that..

but still i guess if you on the other side of the fence...then its you against the corporate giants, just like if someone on here was a traffic cop and had to read about people dissing police etc..

anyways each to their own fellas.. you sure you dont want to start a knitting group where you can all sit round and have a yak

    • Actually,  just remembered there should be info in the threads (somewhere) about swapping to a manual steering rack and deleting power steering all together.
    • Also had a look at the Nissan JP website looks like the 400r has a slightly shorter ratio than than the regular V37 3.133 VS 2.937 which from a guy who has driven both 3.69 vs 4.11 ratios in the S15 is bugger all. Seems that the AUTO Z runs the same ratio as the 400R but can't find any info as to if its an open or LSD? More often than not the auto LSD is open
    • Do not replace the power steering lines with this stuff. If it's anything like the Chase Bays stuff it will leak and be worse than stock. The reason why the reservoir is on the LH/passenger side of the car is because that's just where the reservoir was most convenient to fit. Don't overthink this stuff. The intake/cold side of the engine is pretty busy on these cars. And again, the hardpipe is designed to be a janky power steering cooler. In theory you can replace it with a real power steering cooler but that's really only for track use where boiling the fluid is a distinct possibility. Start with the low pressure lines feeding the pump from the reservoir. Make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the reservoir filter. Be careful to not get ATF all over the engine bay. I hate dealing with ATF spills, you can clean it up and the slightest crevice will still release more oil that can still drip over time. You also want to inspect for leaks before you make a mess and can't tell what happened. Most likely you have a leak somewhere that is allowing fluid out and air in. Failing that it's allowing air in but not fluid out. Only place I can really see that happening is on the low pressure side because the pump will pull a slight vacuum to draw fluid in. Everything after the pump is high pressure or lower pressure, approaching atmospheric by the time it returns to the reservoir.
    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
    • Nah, the car seems to run exactly as it did prior, in saying this it does "seem" to be better down low, like more eager to rev, but that may be 100% placebo effect from intake noise But, I'm not worried about it at all, in the end it is a fairly low compression NA engine that has a well shrouded intake,  if it is getting hotter IAT I cannot notice anything negative performance wise from the seat of my pants thrashing it about on the street or sitting in traffic, so meh, car now now makes induction noise so I'm happy
