Hey all, my M35 is coming up to 150 thousand and was worried my turbo was about to die but this noise has been occurring on and off for a while.

It seems to be more evident during warmer weather or when the car has been in heavy traffic for a bit.

Occurs during acceleration but more obvious at lower speeds. Happens when revving in neutral too so doesn't appear to be driveline (unless it's gearbox).

Sound is a deep grinding and comes from the front passenger side but I'm sure if it was turbo, it would've died by now.

I haven't had a chance to pull ancillary belts off yet but also worried about keeping it cool when it gets to temp. I was thinking it may be the fan pulley bracket or water pump?

I have the stickers for the 100,000km service so imagine water pump was part of that service?

Appears to be AC compressor. Had tested that but only after it'd been running for a while so was already making the noise.

Have been driving around without AC and haven't heard it since.

Apologies, I thought this issue may have been more common.
