Painting rocker cover

Painted my rocker cover using high temp paint and primer undecoat

 

it hasn’t come off but feels as it is either dust that has merged with the paint after a year or burned so repainting again.

 

i have bought high temp spray but with primer can’t see any high temp ones.

 

any ideas on whether primer needs to be high temp?

 

do you reckon it can get above 200 degree c in engine bay

That surface will never get that hot.

Why do you reckon the paint has been damaged?

 

it seems as it has absorbed all of the dust into itself

 

would you use primer undercoat which is a must for paint adhesion but again can’t see high temp ones

It got soft when hot.

After a very thorough degreasing, I scrub the valve covers with thinners using very fine steel wool and when dry apply a light coat of rattle can top coat and follow with two more light coats allowing about an hour between coats. Dulon auto paint used. Still unmarked after a year in the car.

Did u use high temp paint and normal primier?

DO everything myself, the block is epoxy gloss black, multiple thin coats gives best finish.

Plastic belt covers, prepare by polishing with fine steel wool soaked in thinner, then multiple thin coats of matt black auto rattle can paint

I used small cans of metallic grey ford touch up paint on mine years ago. Was fine. Only reason I have changed since is have gone to dipped carbon fibre
